#43 Bad Business Planning
First Comic Previous Comic Next Comic Today's Comic
Looking Back:
This is the first time the Pokémon Center shows up in the comic. Probably should have show it from the outside first... Oh well. Pokémon Centers are common fixtures in the Pokémon world. There's one in just about every town, city, and hamlet. They're all run by identical looking women called Nurse Joy and provide many useful things for trainers. They'll completely heal pokémon for free and they also provide free PCs for trainers to use, trading centers, battling centers, and simple hang out areas. There's no food or lodging available in the games since you don't really need it but considering everything else they do, it makes sense that they'd provide those as well (plus there aren't any hotels or anything in the games). Now, since the Pokémon Centers give away all this stuff for free, it leads to the inevitable question, who the heck pays for all that stuff? All that equipment can't be cheap and then there's supplies, salaries, and the like. In case you're wondering the official Pebble Version explanation is that the centers are paid for by a combination of government grants and a sponsorship from the Pokémon League as a way to encourage the large pokémon training industry.
