#157 It's a ralts
First Comic Previous Comic Next Comic Today's Comic
Looking Back:
These old style speech bubbles are a bit hard to read on some backgrounds, such as this one. And, since I hadn't started using colored text yet, it's not immediately obvious who is talking. For the record, the first and third speech bubbles are Brendan and the second is May.
See the snazzy pokédex graphics? Actually the original version of this strip used my old MS Paint pokédex graphics (at the time, I wasn't good enough with Photoshop to make a better one). But shortly after posting this strip, the awesome Wil of Where There's a Wil sent me a much nicer pokédex, which I've been using ever since.
When working on this strip, I noticed that the screen captures I took of ralts' pokédex entry had a blue background, while all the others had a gray one. At first I couldn't figure out why, but I eventually discovered that blue is the default background color and it only changes to gray once the national dex has been unlocked. I have two game saves I use for Pebble Version. One is my regular game, which I play through as I do the comic in order to double check things and capture any sprites I need for the current area. The other, which I mostly use for pokémon sprites and pokédex entries, has the national dex unlocked. But in order to get that first panel right, I had to get the screen capture from my regular save. Since I hadn't figured out the reason for the color change yet, I had May comment on it. In a future strip, after I figured things out, I had May switch Brendan's pokédex to national mode, so things would be more consistent.
