#78 The Ultimate Combo
First Comic Previous Comic Next Comic Today's Comic
Looking Back:
With mudkip being hit by a super effective grass attack which is also healing treeko while electrike paralyzes torchic, Xain and Cali have a decent strategy going here but calling it an ultimate combo is going a bit too far. As important as weaknesses, resistences, and statuses are in pokémon, with enough of a difference in levels just about any pokémon can beat any other pokémon. Now there are exceptions but that rule holds true most of the time.
You've probably also noticed by now that the pokémon can only say their own name, or combinations of the syllables that make up their names. If you watched much of the pokémon anime that's nothing new but it's not demonstrated quite so obviously in the games or manga. So, in a nutshell, pokémon actually have a very complex language that consists of them saying their name (or various parts of their name), in different combinations and with different intonations. And somehow they all manage to understand each other (even pokémon from different species which have completely different names). On top of that they seem to be able to perfectly understand human speech. At least that's how things work out in the anime. The 'saying their name' part is also present in the manga and games (just not as obvious) but there is no evidence that they have a highly complex language or can perfectly understand humans (although they can at least understand them moderately well). As far as Pebble Version goes, I'm sticking fairly close to the anime's view of things, mainly because that's what people seem to be the most familiar with.
