It seems that some pokémon are unable or unwilling to trigger the neccessary energy to evolve on their own and need some sort of focus or trigger to do so.

This week's discussion: How come there are less and less wild fire pokemon? Like, in Diamond/Pearl, there are no new wild fire types. Only the starter and a ledgendary! And they have like, 200 water pokemon. Why is this so?

Being part steal, Dialga hates fire types so he didn't make any new ones when creating Sinnoh along with Palkia.

Because of global warming, the polar ice caps are melting and flooding the world with water. Which explains why there are less fire pokemon and more water ones.

Ah, but he's also part dragon, which negates the fire weakness... he's only weak to Ground and Fighting, which is why he's completely useless in Victory Road which is where you go imediately after catching him. Er...

It was the ALIENS! The ALIENS melt when they get wet, which is why they didn't Pokenap an entire species for their experiments. They did, however, hijack EVERY SINGLE FIRE TYPE IN SINNOH because they're PYROMANIACS!

...Yes I'm aware this is getting old.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

I have a theory. Fire types love volcanos and other such hot spots but hate cold places. In Hoenn, there is a volcano with and abundant amount of fire type pokemon, both around and in said volcano. In the Cinninbar Island, which is volcanic, you can catch fire a lot of fire types in the old house. In Sinnoh, there is a large, non-volcanic mountain with lots of snow on it. No volcano. But I cant explain slugmas on cycling road, vulpixes on Mt. Pyre, or ponytas in Sinnoh.

Gah! their onto me! now what do I do?

Also the reason vulpix and ponyta end up there is because they're known as "grassland" pokemon along wih their evolutions, there's also growlithe and arcanine that I know for sure, not sure about the rest of the fire types excluding the ones in firered.
Redback, Funnel-Web, Blue-ringed octopus
Taipan, Tigersnake and a Box jellyfish
Stonefish and the poison thing that lives in a shell
That spikes you when you pick it up

Skutank actually learns Flamethrower naturally, and Octillery can as well from a TM. In fact, I have an Octillery that knows Fire Blast, and it works fine.

the programmers were braindead when it came to new fire pokemon.
This is my RP Forum, Tales of Symphonia Adventures, or ToSA for short. Please take a look?

Actually, the programmers probably have little if anything to do with what new pokémon are created. That'd be up to the designers and possibly the art department.

I think a lion Pokemon with a flaming mane and tail would be cool. It could probably learn Slash and Bite and Flame Wheel and stuff.

I meant a lion's mane :offtopic: oops, sorry smiley. Anyway, Josiah's right. The only fire types in the game (without the national dex) are the fire starter series, a legendary, Ponyta, Rapidash. And out of those, Ponyta/Rapidash is the only one that is pure fire throughout the evolutionary line. Maybe it's just difficult to associate animal-like things with fire...
Ninetails is one of my favourite Pokemon, by the way.
