The King of the Forums Contest - Official Rules
The King of the Forums Contest - Official Rules
It's time for...
The King of the Forums Contest!!!
The King of the Forums Contest is open to all member of the forums, new and old. Anyone can win! Except me since I'm running it all...
The contest will run from March 11 through April 10th. At the end of that time, the people with the three highest scores will be awarded the titles of King, Prince, and Duke of the forums (or if you prefer, Queen, Princess, and Duchess) and get their choice of one of the prizes available in their prize catagory (listed below).
As previously stated, the contest will be decided by score. Throughout the duration of the contest, all forum members will be awarded points for a variety of things. I'll keep track of these points and announce the highest scores at the end. So, how do you earn points? Just check the following list.
Earning Points:
Posting in any thread = 1 point
Posting in RPs (the RP board, RP Battles board, Survivor, ROM, and Portal Panic) = 2 points
Starting a new thread = 2 points + 1 point for every five posts made in that thread (doesn't matter who posts)
Getting a new person to join the forums = 2 points + 1 point for every five posts made by that new member
Winning a round of the Thingy Game = 2 points
Special bonuses = ? points
For the thread bonuses and new member bonuses, these only count for new threads that are created during the contest and new members that join during the contest.
Special bonuses are awarded for completing mystery goals. As to what those goals are, they're a mystery. However, possible bonuses MIGHT include things like posting in the Saying Hi thread every day and starting the best new game. The points awarded will vary depending on the goal.
Finally, spam posts, posts that break the forum rules, and reviving old threads for 'me too' posts will not earn points and may even result in a loss of points. (However, reviving old threads for legitimate reasons, such as bringing back an old game or RP, are perfectly fine.)
Prizes are as follows.
1st Prize (King/Queen): Choice of one of the following + graphic for signature and special forum title:
Cash prize ($25 mailed, paypaled, or donated to PV)
Signed copy of Guardian of The Stone + printed and signed PV strip of your choice (mailed)

Hm. This means that anyone can spam up with new topics and get a bunch of points...although there was that new game I wanted to try.....
Stevenson's Vocabulary Word of the Week:
Foment: (verb) To excite or arouse, i.e. 2014's Week of Randomness hopes to foment some activity on the forums.
Stevenson's Latin Phrase of the Week:
Brutum Fulmen: (senseless thunderbolt) This phrase, coined by Pliny the elder, is used to refer to an empty threat.

Re: The King of the Forums Contest - Official Rules
That appiles to making new threads as well. Junk posts, be they replies or threads, do not earn points and might subtract them. Don't worry, I don't want a bunch of crappy posts or threads cluttering things up either.Josiah wrote:Finally, spam posts, posts that break the forum rules, and reviving old threads for 'me too' posts will not earn points and may even result in a loss of points. Is there going to be any kind of point tally at any interval? Like, you'll update the point listing at the end of every week or something? Or would you rather the scores be kept secret?

I should not take part as it could be seen i'm rigging the results as I can delete posts by other members, and I am also involved in the prize.

Well, okay then, just so long as everyone knows I offered to not take part

Interesting fact... Neo's normal post count alone (not counting RP posts or bonuses) would have been enough to earn him first place by itself. Yes he really posted that much.
Now, for the prizes. Special ranks have already been given to the winners. Signature graphics will be finished sometime over the weekend. Neo, Silver, Poik, either post here or PM me to let me know which prize you want from your prize category.

I really AM curious as to how Neo had time to post so much... I'd get back from school or something and there would be like millions of posts with his name on them. I bet he cloned himself and sent the clone to take care of all his typical responsiblities! Like sleeping! That way he could post 24/7 without worry!
...Anyway...
As I said I'd do before the contest, the $15 will be donated to Pebble Version. That way, everyone wins!

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.
