Nya. Celebifly is getting concerned about the killing. Let's compare Polar to Earth.
The reason you get a weapon in Polar is because Polar's magic is our technology. Since we use magic in Polar, our technology becomes a weapon, which is their technology. (Damn! it sounds like FMA >>)
Now, about killing. When your character is on Earth, do they just go around, killing people? I doubt it. That's because of our law and such.
In Polar, the dukaknights 'kill' because their ruler Duka tells them to. But they'd rather not kill us right away. They only kill if they have to. Also compare them to an army. They are trained to kill. They don't randomly pick up a wepaon and kill someone. Think about it. Who would most likiely kill/hurt someone? Someone trained to or a random pedestrian? They rather badly hurt the opponent for capturing. Like in pokemon. You don't want to kill a ledgendary, you want to weaken it so you can capture it.
Now, we shouldn't kill them because we were raised in Earth with ethics and strict rules. If you go to a new world, would you really want to go around killing people because you can? Would you really kill someone in real life? Just think about it.
Sorry-but I just find it a little over the edge for the killing so early. You should only kill if it's your last resource. Or if the dukaknights are aiming to kill. Right now they're not.
Now, my next post will be about the animals. Since Polar has a different enviroment, it doesn't home the same creatures as Earth does.
Technically, you just *didn't* chop off a horses leg. This more than likely would have caused death due to snapped necks. It also would not have been very pleasant for the horse involved.
Also, I'd like to see you live through having your leg chopped off.
Technically, though Mash did not mean for the poison to have that skin-crawling {pardon the pun} effect, he still knowingly applied poison to an arrow {he said it was poison in his post}. He also threw the arrow so that it penetrated the guard's flesh, which tends to involve killing sometimes.
Stevenson's Vocabulary Word of the Week:
Foment: (verb) To excite or arouse, i.e. 2014's Week of Randomness hopes to foment some activity on the forums.
Stevenson's Latin Phrase of the Week:
Brutum Fulmen: (senseless thunderbolt) This phrase, coined by Pliny the elder, is used to refer to an empty threat.

Actually, I edited that post, chopping of a guy's leg instead.
...
Not really helping my case there am I? Also, I will admit Karik (My guy) has no probelms killing people indirectly. Meaning if they die from blood loss, then "technecally" he didn't kill him. That's how his mind works. I blame Mash <__< >__>
I'm thinking Cobalt isn't going to have much of a problem with the killing. He's pretty useless with that Damascus right now. As in, if he found himself in a fight, unless someone yelled instructions at him at every turn of the battle, he'd just panic and either try to run away or flail randomly with the knife. Not very safe, yes, but he's never handled a knife before. Unless you count chopping up carrots or something, and chopping up carrots hardly applies to fighting another person...@.@ He's more likely to run away though. For example, if he got cornered, then he'd use the knife.
'Course, he could accidentally open a vein or something...*shifty eyes*
