ROM 4: New Horizons

Ahmal and Jeff took turns explaining what they knew... They knew that the enemy was using some kind of weapon in the form of a dangerous fog... and that there were seven generals. Other information included that many attacks happened during the dark hours of night in ambush fashion, and that quite a few the attacks had come directly from the east.

The army structure was squad based with a single species of altered monster in each battalion. Twelve beasts to a squad, 200 squads to a battalion, 12 battalions per eschelon.

"... and one eschelon per General." Jeff finished. "On top of that, if there were any survivors from a decimated battalion, those who retreated would return with a restored battalion at full strenth in a matter of days, so we assume they have access to cloning technology."

A few of the Gamers were writing this all down.

Ahmal began their conclusion. "However, we still are unaware of the motives for this war, who the generals are..."

"... or who the madman that instigated this mess is."

The guardian was watching and listening to all of this through the Archangel... They described the attack on D-Edge perfectly...

((Um, attack on D-Edge was compleatly independint of this. For one thing, the monsters came from the forest itself and were only a small handful but fairly powerful. Don't worry. I did have this part planed out for when we went to D-Edge itself. If Josiah or shauni really really really need to know then they can pm me though I hate to spoil :) ))

Neo was split between the going conversation and what had been happing to him recently. Especially what just happned not long ago outside. Though it seemed to not have been successful to Neo it had an impact. For one thing it seemed he knew abit more about the darkness within and abit of controll over it. This was just a hunch though. He still didn't know how it got there in the first place or what it was. Just he might beable to controll it in the future. Might being the word here.

Tsuekasa must of been tired or bored with all this and was sound asleep with her head on Neo's lap.

Shauni had remained silent for the most part, she had taken in everything around her and come to one conclusion
"So in summary, you don't know who or what where fighting and why." she stated bluntly
"Um...that's correct"
Shauni sighed
"These seven generals your talking about sound like the Seven Deadly Sins House"
Everyone's attention was turned towards Shauni now.
"You know who they are?"
"Possibly. I have heard stories on my travels of corrupted warlords in the lands that are still governed by factions. I hear recently Seven of them came together to form and ultimate House of Power. Please have been calling it the Deadly Sin's House. Apparently each one draws power from a negative energy and transgresses that power into monsters, making them twisted and evil."
Everyone looked at her, fascinated
"This is all just rumour. I've never actually seen these warlords...and I don't know which region there from"
"There from beyond Merry Creak...they must be from the new continent" Codo interjected
"They sound like the types we have sealed in there in the past"
"But what are they doing here...and now?"
Shauni looked away sheepishly. She may have released them from a pocket domain...she couldn't remember everything she had done...she reminded silent for the remainder of the discussion...

Opal gave a low sigh.
"There are so many things that are going bad. Auruas, friends attacking friends, and top of all of that, I have an SoS and I'm not too sure if Protoption is good or bad!"

"And there has to be a better way than letting him out to find out."

"Well, it looks like there's only one way to handle this." *Josiah glanced at Virgo, she nodded in agreement and he stood.* "Virgo and I will go to this new continent and investigate. If these Seven Deadly Sins are behind it we'll need to take them out, along with anyone who may be working with them. Besides, I have a feeling that Amhal was going to request it anyway."

*The Prince sighed.* "I don't want to force you into this but it would be a great help."

"I'll need a day to prepare." *Josiah merely nodded.* "We'll leave the day after tomorrow. From what I know of the area past Merry Creak, flying will be dangerous so I'd appreciate it if you could arrange for a boat I can use."

"Of course."

*Josiah turned to his friends.* "I know each of you have important things to deal with. I won't ask any of you to come but, if you can, I'd be greatful for the help."

*David was the first to stand.* "I'll go. I can't forgive anyone who tries to destroy Vahallo."

"Thanks guys." *Josiah smiled but he hid a slight feeling of unease. While he was glad that his friends were coming, Shauni and Neo would have to be watched closely. The last thing they're group needed was to start fighting each other.*

"I'll have the boat waiting at the harbor in Vahallo tomorrow." *Amhal rose and prepared to leave.* "But, if you don't mind, I'd like Jeff to go with you."

((It's around 2 AM right now so we have one day to rest and prepare.))

The group went to each of the several guest rooms in the house for the night. Neo left Tusekasa on the couch and put a blanket over her. Though Metalmorph complained, Neo informed him that it was the night to return to the card. "I wouldn't otherwise but you tend to explore new areas."

Neo went to bed.

Neo was running in a forest. Not much sun could get through the trees so it was somewhat dark. Neo finally arrived in a clearing. He could hear someone running infrount of him. A female from the sounds of it. But when Neo came into the small clearing he saw a dredful sight. Each of his friends were laying dead on the ground. Each apparently dying in a diffrent way. Even Virgo was laying ontop of Josiah as if trying to protect him. Neither was moving. Then he saw a figure move, trip and fall. It was Tsuekasa. She was out of breath and terrified. Then a tunderus sound came from behind. He didn't bother to run. He knew what it was. The same thing that killed everyone else. Though he knew he had helped. He opened his mouth to say something but no words that he could tell came out. Though a light came from behind and a blast of energy soon followed and struck Tsuekasa. She was dead. Then a scream came from Neo and a strange laugh...

Neo istantly woke up. Sweat was all over his body. It was that dream again. The same dream he'd been having for the past 1.5 years. Though it was every once inawhile and sometimes repeated from the last time. Somehow Neo knew that this was the finial part of it. Then Neo felt something and turned around. Neo quicky hopped out of bed when he saw who it was. Tsuekasa was sleeping next to him. "Same trick as when I was home. Never will stop trying will ya." Neo quietly left the room and went to the couch and pulled the blanket over himself. Though he didn't feel like sleeping within an hour he was fast alseep and dreamless.

(note, the dream is sanifigent to part of the story :) )

*Neo wasn't the only one who dreamed that night. David tossed restlessly on his bed as a series of scene accousted his dreams. He saw himself as a child, playing with a pair of smiling adults. His parents? He couldn't remember. Then he was older, holding hands with a girl in the park. There were more, many more, too many to comprehend. They came so fast, too fast, and in the background lay a single prevading sense of pain.*

"AARGH!" *David woke up in a cold sweat, the memories of the dream fading as quickly as they had come.* "Why now?" *Although he'd had many similiar dreams, they'd ended nearly two years ago, after he recieved his psychich powers, powers which he now pretended he didn't have.* "It's not me..." *He repeated over and over as the scenes from the dream continued to vanish from his mind. And how could it be? He had no memories of the place or people in that dream. He had grown up in Vahallo. He knew he had.* "It's not me, it's not me..."

((After rereading ROM 1 I decided to bring back David's back story and kinda finish it up since this is the last ROM and all. I hope it turns out something like Shirou had planned.))

Shauni had gone to the guest room and quickly climbed out of the window. She sat on the roof of the house, unable to sleep. She starred up at the sky she had seen so often, and sighed.

She heard from Neo's room a horrible scream, and then some fluster before the door closed
"Must have had a nightmare"
A few moments later she heard David stair in his sleep, then muttering.
"Everyone is haunted these days...I long for simpler times when we all journey for fun. We all sang together...and everything seemed right with this world."
Her gaze fell down to the smock coming up into the sky line from the scared city
"Everything is falling apart...how do I tell the others this could be all my fault..."
She closed her eyes and held her legs in a self hug, she had suddenly left the cold.
"Guardian father...if you listening...I could do with some advice..."

At a location elsewhere, a figure warring glasses and a lab coat is boring over some old text books. He is joined by another figure from a darkened doorway, we can't see him but he is dressed in black armour.

"So, what have you come up with."

"After extensive research I have discovered the Ancient beliefs have indeed a cryptic message as you theorised."

"And what is the message."

"I've only been able to partially translate the text but it does indeed speck of the 3 elements of that relate to your ascension theory. Its strange that the stories of this 'Sensai' priestess and her entourage should include any reference to Ascension at all."

"What does it mention about the three elements?"

"Its talks about pure energy... mass and speed.... its refers to science and mathematics...
I must ask...but you didn't commission this research based on a interest in theology did you?"

"Your correct. Religion holds no interest for me."

"Tell me...what is this code."

"e=mc2"

"What does that mean?"

"Its a mathematical equation...The equation describes the relation between energy and mass. Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared. Its how matter can produce energy...its rather complex considering the era it came from."
"Tell me...can the equation be done backwards? Mass from energy I mean?"

"All mathematical equations MUST work backwards."

"Excellent. If matter can be used to produce energy, then energy can be used to produce matter. No question about this at all, since the equation must work both ways."
"Well...I don't know how practical it would be...in theory you could affect the structure of the universe with enough energy and manifest a solid object. However...the amount of energy needed to create even the weight of a apple would obliterate Orca."

"Orca is no matter... after all... it is only theory we talk of."

"Its not possible. You could never hope to generate the amount of energy needed for ascension.

Nothing is impossible for me. I have sources beyond any of your reach."

"Keep working...I will find a way to be real once again..."

He leaves.

The morning soon came. Tsuekasa was the first to wake up and notice that Neo wasn't in his bed. "Still leaves in the middle of the night. I just wish he would show his true fellings. I hope so cause I do really love him."

She headed twords the kitchen and started to make breakfast for everyone.

Shauni had fallen asleep on the roof of Josiah's house, and it wasn't until she heard a knock at her door from the open window she woke up.

She flew down to the window after rubbing her eyes a while, confused for a moment about where she was. She left stiff and ached from her night on the roof. She groggily walked to the door. Before her stood Yomikko
"What's wrong 'Mikko?" she asked while yawning half heartily
"Did you sleep on the roof?" she asked while looking at Shauni, who was warring her dirty cloths from yesterday
"Um...yea...anyway, what do ya want?"
Yomikko was momentary confused. Shauni's speech had been getting rougher of late she notice
"Um...I was waking you for breakfast....I was going to make Omelettes"
Shauni smiled "All right! Your cooking is the best Mikko!"
Yomikko smiled half heartily, in had infect wanted to talk to Shauni about some very important things she might had needed to know about Merry Creak, but she decided Shauni should eat first.
"Ok, you get cleaned up ok...please good get cleaned up"
Shauni nodded and retreated back into the room.
"God I stink..." she commented to thin air
*No amount of soup and water can clean my soul thought...* she thought. Her face became sullen again.
She went to her back and drew out some fresh cloths.
