ROM 4: New Horizons

*Ibun overhears the regal man talking to another person. This one is smaller, much less toned boy. He was dressed in a typical uniform worn by sailors, so it was assumed he was just a new recruit. Something was off about him though, he sensed a tainted aura; but he shrugged it off. He looked around, seeing nothing all too suspicious. Just a bunch of tourists and the like. His left paw was covering his lux cannon, taking every precaution he can, just in case.*

*The last bead of sweat had been wiped away, and no evidence of his training was visible. His visage was grim, much different than the Jeff of old. He wondered to himself if they would recognize him. Meanwhile he was talking to a young boy, no older than 18. Fresh out of the academy. He knew the young man all too well. He was a good kid; but he was very misguided. He was making sure to keep an eye on him. After finishing up his conversation he turned to leave. However the boy had other plans. He unsheathed a tiny dagger and thrust toward Jeff.*

*Ibun went wide-eyed. His protective instincts kicked in and he dashed in front of Jeff.* "LUX SHIELD!" *A translucent yellow liquid surrounded the pair, protecting them from the attack. He lowerd the shield after the cadet was thrown back. Ibun drew his gun and pointed towards the child.*

*Jeff stood up, looking angrily at his attacker. He drew his pistol and, without hesitation, shot a bullet towards his head, grazing the side of it. He walked up and kicked him for extra measure, leaving him a reminder of what happens. His attention turns to that of the monster, looking at him curiously.* "Who's monster are you, and why did you protect me?"

*Ibun swallowed heavily, with a loud gulp.* "My name is Ibun, IbunCloudslayer. I...I have no master. He was killed by a mysterious cloud. He came over to me and told me that he had been poisoned. The source he was unsure of. All I can tell you, is that it was a weird, purple-y pink color. And it came from the ground, like from some plant or something. Nothing around us was visible. The fog was dense and thick, could barely see my nose in front of my face. As I watched his body deteriorate, I grew more and more determined to find answers. I stowed away on this ship to get to that island, hoping to discover some clues. You know, you kind of reminded me of my old master, so when I saw you were being attacked, I guess my insticts just kicked in. Oh...I almost forgot. The fog affected me too. Though it didn't kill me, it mutated me. The armor, sword, and cannon on my body, all of it came from it. Both the sword and the cannon are morphable, in the sense that I can turn them back into paws at a moment's notice. Anyways, I probably will be taken prisoner for stowing, so it was nice knowing you."

"Wait, I'll make sure you get to the island. For now, you're with me. If anybody asks, tell them to speak with me. You saved my life, and I always repay my debts. The name is General Jeffrey Gallo. I'm on my way to the tournament to meet up with some old friends of mine. Perhaps you'd like to come along? They have been all over the world, maybe they've heard something about it. Plus, you'll get to talk to alot more people if you have a respected general such as myself by your side. The choice is yours of course."

*After talking for a little while longer, Ibun agrees to accompany Jeff to the island. They spend the rest of the trip telling eachother stories of their adventures. Of course, the cadet was placed under arrest, and thrown in a cell until the arrived back at the port.*

"Is anyone home?" a cheery voice came from outside
Elder Codo paused as he passed the front doors to the hall and was about to ask who was there when the cheerful voice interrupted him.
"Hi!" the voice called out again.
Blinking, Codo lifted his head and stared with wide eyes at the figure standing on the high wall that surrounded the Hall
"Bet you didn't think you'd see me again any time soon"
The figure was surrounded by the rising sunlight, blocking all its feature...Codo could not make out anything except two large wings made from pure fire.
"who...or what are you??"
The dark haired girl shook her head at this then turned her attention to the floor.
"How could you forget me?"
The figure jumped down to the ground and walked into view, out of the blinding sunlight
"Its me, Shauni"
"Of course!" yelled Codo sheepishly "How foolish of this old man not to recognise you of all people!"
Shauni frowned, she wasnt buying it.
Codo laughed uncomfortably
"Well...you do look a little different...I mean, its nice...those...fire...wings"
"I thank you humbly," said the dark haired girl as she gave a formal bow.
Elder Codo stood confused "Shauni, what be wrong with you child...you seem... different"
Immediately Shauni's ocean blue eyes gleamed as she starred at Codo in an eerier manner
"Allot has happened to me in the last year...I am different"
Codo rubbed his arm, feeling more than a little uncomfortable
"What be your business here at my research halls of Vahallo?"
"I'm on my way to the tournament, thought I'd say hello before I took off"
"indeed..." spoke Codo, who was studying Shauni's every movement and mannerism
"Your aura...is far more powerful than before...Child...WHAT have you been doing?"
"Ive been doing...research of my own"
"What kind of...research be that...and into what?"
"That 'be' none of your concern...this is a visit to an old friend is all Codo..if you are to lecture me...I will be leaving"
Codo began to wave his arms infront of this chest
"No child! Yee must remain here! I detect and evil aura on your person! I must purify it!"
Shauni drew two daggers from either side of herself from casing
"What you sense is indeed and evil...but nothing you can purify...they 'be' cursed daggers that I whiled instead of some deadly foe"
"Be...be those the Twin Shatter Daggers from Old??"
"Indeed, the weapons destined to be used by Moen...if he weren't dead...another little sub plot never developed....there are lots of pocket domains like Bowen's... but dont fret...I have sailed many... and no evil but these I have found in over 100"
"How...how have you been opening them?" asked Codo in a shaky voice
"Ive been using Hellfire"
"Hellfire STILL burns??"
"Yes...now Codo...I must be off, I have a reunion to go to"
Shauni took off back onto the wall and spread her fiery wings
"Wait child! Be what you do dangerous! please stop!"
"Codo...I am now child"
with that shauni took of into the sky...heading to the island
"no no no! The island may soon be in danger! I must warn them!"
Codo ran of into his halls, and returned with a dragon card
"Fly dragon Storm! We must hurry!"
The dragon, green and basic, appeared in a burst of fire, Codo jumped on its back...and they took of after Shauni...who had already disappeared from view...

One Week before...

Neo could see the forest in the distance. The past year and a half he?d been going around purging the lands of the dark shrines and restoring the areas back to normal. Flying on Ice Bird the forest closed in.

?Just as I thought. The forest looks darker then normal. There has to be a shrine in there.? Neo could sence something in the forest as well. As if the thing he?d also been searching for was near. Neo was running low on supplies and he spotted a village. His home village of D-Edge. Neo landed outside of town and returned Ice Bird. He headed into town.

He walked into the General Store in town.

?Well I?ll be. Welcome back Neo. Havn?t seen you for awhile now.?

?I know. It does feel good to be back home.?

?Tsuekasa has been searching for you.?

?Has she now.? Replied Neo.

"Ya. She left a week ago upon hearing about a strong trainer and went to see if it was you. She?ll be disappointed to find out you came here after she left. So, you staying or getting stuff do go somewhere.?

?I?m heading off into the Forbbiden Forest.?

The shop keeper froze. The forest was also known as the Dark Forest as creatures of dark often resided there. They occastionly attacked the village and kept it on it?s toes. And noone ever made it out after going in. That?s why the town elders have called it the Forbbiden forest and have named it that on the maps.

?You know about that forest. I would hate to loose you.?

?Well I must go in. There is a shrine in there that needs to be purfied. The forest is darker then normal.?

"Well there have been more attacks and stranger creatures coming from it. I guess you got to do what you need to do. Also there have been reports of a dark human figure seen at the edge of the forest. Could just be a monster.?

?I?ll keep that in mind.?

?I also heard there was going to be a tournament in Vahallo in a week. Maybe you should enter.?

Neo?s eyes lit up when he heard that. A chance to test his fighting out and maybe see his new friends as well.

?Well, I guess the forest can wait. It shouldn't be too long for the tournament there and back. I may even have some help too when I get back.?

?Good luck on what ever you do.?

?See you around.? 

One Week later...

Neo was aproaching the town of Vahallo. He'd been here once almost 2 years ago. The town seem to be buzzing about and boats heading towards a island off the coast. It seemed to be where the tournament was being held. Neo told Ice Bird to head over to this island. Once they got there there were lots and lots of people around. Neo circled the island afew times taking in the view. Then Neo saw Tashi laying on the ground like it had crashed. Neo had to laugh to himself. How could someone not know how to land after years of flying. Neo started his decent and landed near the group.

"So tell me Silver, why havn't you learned how to land Tashi yet?", said Neo with a grin. Neo jumped off along with Metalmorph in it's human shape. It's shape shifting abilites had been greatly worked upon and now it looked human just like Virgo (with clothing) cept his skin was hard as steel and was heavy. Neo had to train Ice Bird to be able to carry the extra weight when he was out of the card. "Hi everyone."

"Hey Neo! You're here for the tournament, right?" *Josiah grinned.*

"Wouldn't miss it. I might not have been a match for the rest of you last time you saw me but now it's a different story."

"Holy fudge crackers!" *Silver he turned and was squinting off into the crowd.* "Look over there!"

"It's David. David!" *Virgo called, waving.*

*After a moment he spotted her and made his way over. David looked much the same as he had before. A little of the hardness that had coated him during their last adventure seemed to have faded away but a sort of muted sadness had sprung up in its place.* "Hi, long time no see." *His greeting at least, was sincere and cheerful.*

"Well, don't just stand around." *Josiah ushered them towards the arena.* "Let's get all of you signed up for the tournament. Virgo, can you stay out here and wait for Prince Amhal. Keep an eye out for Shauni and Jeff too."

"Will do."

Shaunisa waited for all the other to diapere until there was only Virgo.

She came up behind her silently and yelled "BOO!"
Virgo almost jumped 5 feet into the air
"Sorry about that Virgo, couldn't resist"
"Shauni! That was so mean! But its great to see you! You look...well *?*"
Virgo viewed the figure that was Shauni...she looked a little rougher around the edges and a little...eerir...kind of frighning
"Are you...ok?"
Shaunisa closed her eyes and smiled
"Fine...Ive just been threw a lot resently...got any where I can clean up?"
"Sure...there are rest rooms over here...let me take you..."
"No need. I can find em alone"
*I sence an evil aura on Shauni....this isnt good...*
"Its my new daggers" ansered Shauni, who had red Virgo's thoughts by the look on her face"
"There demonic...but dont worry, there harmless....o, and if you see Elder Codo, tell him to chill out. I'll be back soon"
Shaunisa disapred of into the direction Virgo had pointed
"My...she sure has changed in the last year...but why would elder codo come here??"

((He will take ages to get here, after the tourniment infact...how forunate!))

"...and so that's what happened." *Ibun concluded his long story.*

"Wow. That's terrible. Well-- oh! Looks like we've arrived at the island." *The boat eventaully docks and the pair makes their way off the ship. Jeff looks around, trying to find a familiar face. With Ibun close to his side, he makes his way to the arena, looking up at it with amazement.* "Looks like they went all out this time."

"What is all of this anyway?" *Ibun looked around confusedly.*

"Well, I'm here to watch some of my friends compete in a 3 on 3 monster battling tournament."

"WAIT! You mean they battle monsters for fun!?" *Ibun's expression turned to that of almost disgust.*

"Well...I never thought of it that way...But essentially I guess that's true. They do make sure to take every precaution, so that no monsters get mortally wounded, or killed." *Jeff thinks for a moment.* "I've never met a monster quite like you, one who has complete free will. So the thought never crossed my mind. But, don't worry, the monsters' safety always comes first."

*Ibun looks at Jeff unsuredly.* "Well...if you say so..."

"Don't worry about it, my friends are highly experienced. They know how to take care of their monsters."

*Almost immediatly after that a voice shouts to them.*

"JEFF? IS THAT YOU?"

((I've added some moves to Fenix that I compleatly forgot about. Quite the list if you ask me.))

Neo read over the rules carefully. "No God Monsters? Where is the fun in that? O well, rules are rules. And I've been training mine too."

Neo signed up and registered all his mosters cept Kuiia. The others also signed up.

"So when is this all going to start? I wouldn't mind looking around if there is time."

"I would too like to see this place. I havn't been around much for large groups of people and buildings and is all very intresting to me."

((What happened to only five attacks? I believe we established that rule in ROM 1... and uh, Tashi wasn't laying on the ground... after a few years it's learned how to take a hit. Even if said hit is from concrete...))

"No god monsters?! Aw, crap. Oh well, I still got my poison combo, and now that Tashi's got Toxic Bite it's..."

"Not allowed either."

"You're killin' mah strategy here... well, at least I still got Acro Iris-"

"You mean the parrot?"

"It's not a parrot! Ok, well it kinda is, but still... it doesn't ask for crackers! ...without the fudge."

((Silver's right about five attacks. I don't mind Ibun having extra attacks since he's a special case but regular monsters should stick to five.))

"The rules are there to keep things fair. That poison combo is way too cheap. You know that. And there's no way I could allow god monsters, not with only three of them in existance. It would be too unfair to everyone who doesn't have them."

"Ah fine, I'll beat you without them."

"You wish. Remember, you're talking to the Supreme Trainer."

"Only cause you went and fought Bowen without us."

"I didn't see you volunteering."

"You get those too together it's always the same..." *David shook his head in amusement.*

"It's their way of saying they're glad to see eachother." *Opal dropped back next to David.* "Silver's been really excited ever since we heard about this tournament."

*Meanwhile, Silver and Josiah quietted down as they reached the sign up table. The official registration slots were filling up quickly but, at the organizer of the tournament, Josiah had taken care to reserve spots for all of his friends.*

Meanwhile, back at the docks...

"Jeff, you look, um different..." *Virgo wasn't used to seeing Jeff in his military uniform.* "Who's your friend?"

"This is Ibun." *Jeff quickly filled her in while Ibun himself stood awkwardly to one side, uneasy around all the people.*

"Ok, nice to meet you." *She replied when Jeff finished telling her about Ibun.* "Sorry about earlier Jeff, it's really good to see you again. Josiah is in the arena with Silver, David, and Opal. Mustadio, Yomikko, and Emiel are somewhere in there too. And I saw Shauni a few minutes ago. Um..." *She remembered about Jeff and Shauni's seperation.* "Anyway, if you want to sign up for the tournament you should hurry and find Josiah. I'd show you the way but I'm waiting for Prince Amhal. Do you know when he's arriving?"

"He should be on the next boat with Varna. He's been looking forward to this. There haven't been any big tournaments since the Zodiac Legends attack."

"That's why Josiah and I built this place." *Virgo grinned.* "Well, I hope both of you have fun. I'll catch up with you when I can." *She watched as Jeff and Ibun walked off towards the arena.* "I can't believe how much he's changed... It's only been a year and a half but both he and Shauni seem so different... And Shauni with that aura... I should keep an eye on both of them."

Shaunisa stood in the rest room, staring at the face looking at her in the mirror.
The face coldly looked back at her
*You look...different*
Virgos words circled in her head...
"Ive not looked at myself like this for 6 months....I didn't realise how different I look..."
Shaunisa features hadn't changed at all, same old nose, same old ears...but it was the way she held herself that had changed. Her expression was stern and unbroken...as if no emotion has passed it for an age....and her eyes quivered as if nerves...just by looking at herself.
"Ive seen hell...that's why I look like I'm dead"
She placed her hands in the sink and cupped some water in them, then spaced her face. Taking a towel, she began to rub the water into her skin to remove the dirt, more psychological than physical dirt.
She placed the towel down, and looked at her reflection again.
A cleaner face met her, one not so strained from travel
"Its not much better...but it will do for now"
She turned to leave the rest room, her wings fizzled away into her back. She was trying to look as best as she could like Shauni, but she wasn't. Events had changed her.
The daggers whispered to her
"Release me...."
Shaunisa ignored it as always
"Like I would unleash you onto the world. Your staying put until I find a way to purge you of 'The Organisations' influence. Who would have thought after all this time they would resurface now. I guess it was only a matter of time...and there prime object is whipping out Hellfire...basically me"
She shivered at the thought.
"No, Sutra would not let that happen"
She left the resting room
A cubical opened and Yomikko stepped out
"My dear Shauni...what on earth has happened to you?"

(Hmm...if you don't mind, Opal's curse would be revealed during the tormament because that's where I've been planning to reveal it if you don't mind)

Opal stared at Steel Shell's card, wearing her gloves she got long ago in Bowens lair. "Something's up with you..." She mumbled, trying to think of what, but blank came to her mind. 

"Are you going to look at that card all day or can we go get some food?" Silver poked in.

"Oh wha? Um....sure, coming!" She slipped Steel Shell back into her deck, following Silver to the local food place.

((Then why didn't someone mention that when I made my intro thread for ROM 3? Someone of them had more then 5. I'll try and tone it down. Though I could say Flame Mode can only use those attacks and it would be 5. Also changed one of the attacks of Raquezez. The changes to my monster attack list does come in some conflict with ROM 3 but can't (and if I could don't fell like it) change it.))

Neo and Metalmorph explored the town for awhile seeing what Josiah and Virgo had done with the place. The island itself was impresive. There were alot of things one could do here. Metalmorph was always looking around and Neo almost had to watch him like a little kid. "How did Josiah manage with Virgo?" said Neo to himself.

*It was only about ten minutes before the next boat from Vahallo arrived.*

"Amhal, Amhal!" *Virgo called as she watched the people disembarking.*

"Looking for me?" *He suddenly appeared behind her.*

"Gah, can people stop doing that?!?"

"Sorry, sorry." *He apologized and turned to look around the island.* "I like what you've done with this place."

"We can arrange a tour later if you'd like." *Virgo motioned for the prince to follow as she began weaving her way through the crowds, leading the way towards the arena.*

"That would be appreciated. By the way, did you get my tournament registration?"

"Yeah, you're all set. We've got once heck of an line-up for this thing. You, Josiah, Silver, Opal, Neo, David, and lots of others too. Jeff and Shauni are here as well although I don't know if they're competing."

"I knew that Jeff was here, he is part of my army after all. But I'm glad the others have made it as well. Perhaps it will be good for Jeff to see all his old friends again."

"He did seem kind of odd when I met him..." *Virgo replied slowly.*

"Yes..." *Amhal's voice changed from excited and cheerful to tired and wary.* "Despite the peace there's been some, incidents, over the past year. I'd rather not go into details but things have been particularily hard on many in my army, especially Jeff. And without his friends around to support him, well... This trip should be good for him."

"So who was that? Old friend?" *Ibun still acting wary, sticking to his side.*

"Yeah, I guess you could say that. The two of us weren't as close as I was with some of the others. Like..." *Jeff looks up and sees her.* "Shauni..." *He turns around quickly to hide his face, walking away briskly.*

"What are you--?" *Ibun gets interrupted before he can finish.*

"Shhhh. They'll see us. I am not ready to see them yet."

*Ibun looks confusedly up at him.* "Riiiight." *He turns around and shouts to the group.* "HEY GUYS! LOOK WHO IT IS!" *He points up at Jeff.*

((Let's see... Where is everyone at the moment? *Looks back.* Virgo and Amhal are heading towards the arena. Jeff and Ibun just got spotted by Shauni and Yomikko. Neo is walking around the island with Metalmorph. Silver and Opal are getting food. And Josiah is in the arena making sure everyone is signed up for the tournament and David is with him. Ok.))

*Meanwhile, Josiah finished filling out the last few parts of Silver, Opal, David, and Neo's entry forums.* "Ok, that should do it." *He handed the forums to one of his employees then noticed that, unlike the others, David had remained with him.* "Hey, how come you're not off looking around with the others?"

"I'd rather wait until after the tournament. Then I can walk around as long as I want without worrying about the time."

"Makes sense." *Josiah glanced at his watch.* "Hey, I'm going to go find Virgo. Want to come?"

"Sure." *David followed Josiah out of the arena and back into the crowded main street.*

*In her nova form outfit, Virgo was quite easy to spot even in the crowd.* "Virgo, over here!" *Josiah noticed her companion.* "Amhal, good to see you! Ready for the tournament?"

*Josiah, David, Virgo, and Amhal turned at the cry to see a shocked Shauni and Jeff staring at eachother while Yomikko and a strange cat like creature watched nervously from the side. Josiah was about to run over and great his old friend but something stopped him. Both of them seemed so different. He shot a quick glance at Virgo who nodded. So, she sensed it too. Deciding to take a mopre cautious approach, he simply watched.*
