Timmy Tonka and the PVF Contest

Post by Josiah »

So, if you're been reading my news posts on PV you should know that one of the upcoming donation bonuses is going to be the start of a mini-series called Timmy Tonka and the Pebble Version Factory. Well, I originally planned to make most of the cast original characters (except for myself, of course) but then I figured why not work some actual PV readers in there too? And, since the series won't be starting until at least July (quite possibly August), I've got time to hold a contest.

Here's the deal. I need four characters who will appear in the comic. These characters should be based on yourselves (much like the ones that appear in the bonus comics for the Forum Awards and the like). If you're not familiar with Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), this series will be based on that. It'll be about five kids who each get a special golden pokéball, thereby winning a tour of the Pebble Version factory. I'm casting for the four kids who fall victim to various things during the tour. So keep in mind that, if your character makes it into the comic, they are going to do something stupid and got mocked for it. If you want to enter, make a post here containing the following.

1. A sprite sheet for your character (unless you've sent me one in the past, in which case I can just use it).
2. The story of how your character got his/her golden pokéball. This can be as ridiculous as you like.
3. Your character's main vice / shortcoming / personality quirk that is going to lead to his/her eventual downfall.

I'll give you until the 16th to make your posts. Then I'll choose the four I like the best to appear in the comic.

Do you still have the sprite sheet from like three decades ago when I won best new member?

Are you specifically looking for Pokemon-style sprites? Or can we just use anything?
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Anything is fine, so long as it's not overly large. I plan to use the edited KH Chain of Memories sprites of myself that I use in the other bonus comics (may need to finally make some more poses though).

Cool. I'll make a few more poses for Birdon Silver and make a proper entry soon, then.

Question, if not enough people enter, may I have permission to make sprites of other forum members and enter them involuntarily?

I'll say yes, but if I pick one of them as a winner I'd contact them for permission first.

I'd love to join this! It sounds...interesting.

I have new, fancy self-sprites in my art thread so those can be used.
(Edited: New sprites with new outfit are done and posted in my art thread, latest entry! Dang, walking is hard to sprite. It always ends up looking really awkward to me...)

So, the story of how I obtained my golden pokéball? Well, you see, in my off-time, I'm the captain of a small starship, The PPM* Toxin. I and my crew travel around the galaxy looking for strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, and to find out where the heck my library card went. I swear I left it right next to the teleporter. Next time I needed it, gone!
Anyway, so we found this planet that looked a whole lot like the Earth, but we weren't all that sure since some wing-nut in my crew replaced our entire navigation system with Apple maps (and you can be sure I'll be having a word with him about his rank of first lieutenant). So, I decided to beam down to the planet myself to ask someone where exactly we were. Suddenly some lunatic in brightly colored clothing and a top hat jumps out at me from a dark alley. I, being quick on my feet, quickly got out my phaser and stunned him. His buddy then ran out of the alley and said that they were just trying to sell me some encyclopedias. Oops. I apologized and was about to continue on my way, but suddenly my phaser accidentally fired and I happened to stun the other guy too. Of course, being the gentleman that I am, I got out some paper to write an apology note for them to find when they woke up, but, next thing I knew, I was going through their bags to see if they had a map of this area or maybe some gum. Didn't find either, but what I did find was this shiny, golden, round object with a little button on the front. I was curious so I pushed the button. This opened up the strange ball and it contained a piece of paper saying the I won something. Not about to trust odd little spherical containers that were previously owned by so-called encyclopedia salesmen, I beamed back up to my ship to run some tests on it. Turns out the object was called a pokéball, and I had just won an actual contest to a strange facility on this planet. I accepted my invite to this facility post-haste, leaving my ship in orbit with my first commander in charge until I return.

My shortcoming would be that, being both a starship captain on a mission of exploration and discovery, and being head of the science division on my ship, it is my duty to investigate anything new and strange to myself, using none other then my trusty tricorder to gather data. I'm, basically, quite curious, though normally my first commander is by my side to prevent me from getting myself into any serious danger. Normally.

*The Poisoned Puffin Muffin organization, an organization of my own design used in many of my strange little stories I write.

Dang, I got a bit carried away with the story there, huh?...Oh well, at least I had fun writing it.

Since there's only one person so far, and there's no way I'll be getting started on this before August, you have until the end of the month to enter.

I've said it before...but this is the absolute last call. Timmy Tonka will be starting next week in place of the normal voter bonus comics. So you have through the weekend to submit character profiles and/or sprites.

Stevenson got his golden pokeball from a mysterious old man while he (Stevenson, not the old man) was walking through town on errands. The old man handed Stevenson the pokeball along with the cryptic phrase, "may you're life be interesting." Before Stevenson could even correct him on somehow having incorrect grammar in speech, the man had disappeared.

Unfortunately, Stevenson's downfall is his staunchiness, specifically his refusal to allow anything he sees as rude to be left alone, which often annoys people more than the actual rudeness would.

Holy hell I forgot about this something fierce. Ok, so, you have Birdon Silver. I can arrange a few more sprites if you need them. Also, I'm drafting Saber in as the fourth person, since she's already got sprites of herself floating around. I assume you've got them from her bonus comic appearances, right, Josiah?
----------
Silver obtained a Golden Pokeball, along with a Golden Magikarp, from a salesman who was selling them for just 500 Pokemoneys. There was just no way he could refuse a bargain like that, so he bought two! Well, he later found out the golden Magikarp were a bust, but the Pokeballs were the real deal. But as he had no need for two, he decided to give the other to his apprentice, Saber Knight.

Silver will likely have problems with his tendency to goof around. Y'know those doors that say "DANGER: DO NOT ENTER"? Well, that sounds like a good place to practice ballet. When someone says "be quiet or the killer will find us"? Fart joke waiting to happen.

Meanwhile, Saber has a flair for the dramatic. Every little thing is a great tragedy or a terrible outrage and more often than not, deserving of a musical number.
