WAIT I just quickly scrolled down and skimmed this AND THEN I SAW SABER! There's a character named Saber somewhere out there?! I FEEL IT IS MY DUTY TO PLAY THIS GAME.Josiah wrote:I read through the pre-order bonus magazine I got with Fate/Extra, which gave me a bit of an idea of the setting. It sounds pretty interesting and I'm really looking forward to starting it. As for servants, I'll be doing my first play through with Saber, just because.

Re: Games I've Played Recently
IIRC, Saber, the main character of that graphic novel, Fate/stay night (the graphic novel/anime related to Fate/Extra) is named Saber. It seems she's also a playable character in the game, too. Gotta love spoilers from friends. I've actually been thinking about an interest, lately. But I, too, will consider reading the graphic novel and even playing Fate/Extra.

I recommend the visual novel over the graphic novel (manga) if you want to jump into Fate/stay Night.
Also, Saber is more of a title than the character's name, as each servant has a class. Sword users are the Saber class, sharp-shooters are the Archer class, etc.

Re: Games I've Played Recently
I didn't even know there was a manga of F/S N... of course there's a manga of everything I guess so it's hardly surprising. Source material is the visual novel. Did you give me that one yet, Colly? I have Tsukihime still sitting around, still haven't gotten to it... So I guess I should do that first. But anyway. It all started with the VN, so that's really the one you should take a look at. The original anime was made by Studio Deen, and they're a little bit... Studio Deen. The anime running right now, Fate/Zero, is sort of a prequel spin-off thing (I say spin off because, even though it's apparently canon, it's by a different author). The game we're talking about right now, Fate/Extra, is completely a spin off set in a parallel universe with pretty much nothing to do with the man series. Except that it has Saber still, because if it didn't nobody would play it. But I guess you don't need to know anything about the original game to get through it... it doesn't seem like a bad starting point honestly.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Re: Games I've Played Recently
The Saber is Fate/Extra is a completely different Saber than the one from Fate/Stay Night (same class, as Colly said, different girl). But anyway...
Fate/Extra would make an ok starting point for the series since it's a completely seperate universe than everything else, though you'll miss out on all the references to the main series.
The oiginal Fate/Stay Night visual novel was never released in the US but has a good English translation patch available and I highly recommend it. The graphics and music are good, it has a much better branching path structure than most visual novels, and, most importantly, the story is amazing. Three huge main story paths, a cool premise, deep interesting characters, lots and lots of plot twists... It's what got me into visual novels and is still my favorite by far. I really can't recommend it enough. Just watch out for the handful of porn scenes. There aren't many (by the time I reached the first one, I had completely forgotten they were supposed to be in there) and you won't really miss anything by skipping over them though (I believe the installer for the patch even has an option to remove or censor them).
The Fate/Stay Night anime and manga aren't recommended as starting points because they only cover part of the visual novel's story (you just can't cram three massive alternate storylines into one without a ton of cuts).
Fate/Zero is a prequel. The anime is based on a light novel series of the same name. But probably not the greatest starting point either since it would spoil some of Fate/Stay Night's plot twists.

Just bought Bulletstorm, F.E.A.R., and both Max Payne games on Steam. Now if only I could stop playing Fallout: New Vegas long enough to try them...

Re: Games I've Played Recently
Before leaving on vacation, I was playing Assassin's Creed 2. While I thought the first had some neat ideas but a so-so execution, AC2 is a huge improvement and a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I got pretty busy during finals period and couldn't find the time to actually finish it before leaving. Now that I'm on vacation, I rushed through AC Bloodlines on flight over here (not all that great, but I can link it to AC2 to unlock some stuff) and am also a ways into Super Mario Land 3D, which is awesome and really shows how cool the 3D affect on the 3DS is. Once I finish it, I'm finally moving onto Fate/Extra, though I'll probably work in some Project Diva 2nd here and there too.

Re: Games I've Played Recently
Today, after owning it for about a month, I finished Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. IMO, it's the best of all the 3D Zelda games. Sick gameplay, astounding dungeons, and the thrilling story all make up for the downgraded graphics from Twilight Princess. IGN also reviews SS superior to even Ocarina of Time. My friends, too, describe it as "orgasmic", and I couldn't agree with them any less. Well... Maybe not to that extent, but it's so exciting as the game flows on.
In other news, I'm probably going to invest in Batman: AC. Been debating between AC2 and B:AC, but friends convinced me to getting good ol' Batman.

Currently playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 whilst trying to make up my mind about purchasing Battlefield 3.
Oh yeah, and Assassin's Creed II. Aaaaand I still need to get through my massive backlog of PS3 and old PC games.

Wait, what? 360 as in Xbox 360? What are you going to play on it? The only exclusives its got are... Halo and Deathsmiles. Everything else is on the PS3 as well.

Re: Games I've Played Recently
Not quite everything. Here's the list of 360 games I want. It's kinda short, which explains why I waited so long.
Alan Wake
Blue Dragon
Infinite Undiscovery
Lost Odyssey
Mass Effect series (the PS3 doesn't have the first one and I don't want to play it on PC)
Rez HD (the PS2 version is too rare)
Shadow Complex
Tales of Vesperia (since the PS3 version isn't coming to the US)
There's also a couple others I wouldn't mind having, like Splosion Man and Ilo Milo. But really it was mainly for Alan Wake, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, and Vesperia.
The 360 also has some good DDR versions...but I ran into a problem there since my pad's control box doesn't support 360 and cobalt flux shut down recently so I can't buy an adapter.

Although I have been focusing on MLP FiM lately, I have not been skipping in the life department. Yes, I've started playing StarCraft 2. And I suck. D:

Re: Games I've Played Recently
Oh yeah, I've been playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 the past few weeks... I actually bought it well over a year ago (a few weeks after I bought the original SMG) figuring I'd play it right after beating SMG, but then I got distracted by something shiny and didn't get around to it. Well, in either two or three weekends (I'd like to think three so it seems like I'm less addicted) I've gotten all the regular stars and I'm on to the green ones. Fun fun!
