"Fight" Sub-forum?

Post by Pikachu127 »

Sorta like "X" VS "Y". For example, "Eragon" VS "Harry Potter" (this was made up quickly).

Let me elaborate: only logical arguments are allowed. For example, "Eragon is better than Harry Potter because BLANK". "True, but Harry Potter BLANK".

Of course, if it's not... suitable (ex: HARRY POTTER FTW ERAGON SUX types of comments could ruin the proposed subforum), then...

Well, fire away. I honestly do not expect for this to fly even an inch off of the ground, but... Eh, we'll see.

If you're talking about a versus forum, then my answer is no... Crossover debates, including Harry Potter vs Eragon, almost all the time never go anywhere, regardless if it's a popularity debate, who's better, one-vs-one, or whatever... You can read some of the debates me and Josiah had over Superman and Goku, which took days to settle after endless and annoying debating. I honestly don't mind if we had one, but keep in mind...
CollyChan wrote:Honestly, do you know why these powerlevel-type fights never work? Because most of the time, the character is always placed as the weaker one at one moment to make a situation, and stronger the next to solve it. This applies to both Superman and almost always to Goku. Also, different works of fiction have different sets of rules and powerlevels. This is why it's annoying to even think of the outcome of crossover fights.

I've never seen a good debate over Superman vs. Goku. Please stop, as these tend to get really bad really quick.
Arguments like these, especially crossovers, tend to get really dull like Colly said. Eventually, fanboys of either side will waltz in and make everything look ugly. I'm saying no to a "Fight" forum. Besides, we already have this.

That is a simple game though, not meant for serious debates, just quick fun. There's also the RP Battles Sub-forum, which is a bit different, but it would be an interesting way to handle character fights.

Anyway, I agree with what WS said and that these types of arguments tend to get really bad if you have even one particularly passionate person (or two really stubborn people), but if you feel the need to conduct them, you're welcome to do so as long as it doesn't involve flaming/cursing/spamming/porn/advertisements/I don't even know how you'd get those last two involved/general rule-breaking. However, a sub-forum seems a bit unnecessary when it could easily be condensed to just one or two threads.

I would propose a general thread in the "Whatever" section, structured as sort of fight of the week thing, if anything. You know, offer up to candidates for debate, and once people have lost interest in those go for a new set. If you're really opposed to having a single thread, you could make separate threads for "Video Games", "Books", and "TV, Movies, and Anime", but separate threads for each hypothetical fight would be a waste.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Silver and Metal hit the nail on the head. I'm not against debates like that, so long as they don't devolve into flaming, but there's usually no real resolution. If anyone wants to debate them, I think Silver's idea of creating a single thread for it in the Whatever section is a good one.

My signature site. Because ripping off Silver's ideas is fun.

Uhh... Never mind (I was thinking of a semi-serious, still lulzy but smart, not really like this).
