Stuff I've Watched Recently
Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Yeah, Gurren Lagann isn't really anything like you're typical mech show. Take an old corney fighter mech show (like like Voltron or even Power Rangers), give it a better more mature plot (with a few surprisingly serious moments), crank everything up to 11, er, more like 20 actually, and you sorta have Gurren Lagann. It's really a must see.
As for Madoka and Nanoha... I'll watch Madoka as soon as they release the last two episodes. As for Nanoha...the first two seasons got a US DVD release so I won't download them. But I'll probably pick up the DVDs sooner or later if I see a good price.
And back to mech shows... What's wrong with mech shows? The two big mech franchises are Gundam and Macross and neither one relies that heavily on the mechs. Macross is more about the music and romance than anything else. While most of the Gundam series provide very thoughtful looks at war, prejudice, and the like. I don't watch either one for the mechs, not that some of the mechs aren't pretty cool though. I'd recommend giving Macross Frontier and one of the better Gundam series (probably SeeD or Wing) a try before writing off the genre.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
That's the thing about mech... I like Macross Frontier just fine, because there was actually... not a lot of just giant robots fighting each other. And most of those scenes were set to music... and the soundtrack was fantastic, so it was ok. Macross Frontier was all about the music and the romance. Ergo, it barely felt like watching a mech series anyway.
And the only Gundam series I watched was 00, which... put me to sleep. Ok, maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't on at 11 PM on Monday nights. But it was all politics... maybe if there was more decent mech action I would've been able to stay awake. But there were more dramatic pilot face animations than there were mech fighting scenes, so...

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
As for Nanoha, okay, the first season is really slow and generic, and best watched if you are a lolicon. However, it is necessary to watch if you want to watch season two, which is the main highlight. Magical girls with amazing combat scenes, that's all I can describe it as. If you don't feel like sitting through season one, you can always grab the first movie, which is a remake of the entire series that ups the animation, cuts out all the unnecessary and repetitive bits, and adds a few scenes to add to the rival's character. None the less, Nanoha is a must watch if you like magical girls, as it was the series that truly revived the genre.
Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Yeah, I'll have to get to Nanoha sooner or later...
I haven't seen 00 Gundam yet, but Wing and Seed strike a good balance between action and plot (though I was a bit less impressed by Seed Destiny). I've also always been fond of 08th MS Team, though it's a side story so it's on a much smaller scale. The original MS Gundam is kinda slow, as are some of the OAVs. G certainly isn't...but it's more of a shonen fighting show than a Gundam anime. It's fun but corny. X isn't bad either, but I wouldn't put it above Wing or Seed.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Double post but I've been watching a lot of new stuff lately...
I got to episode 30 something in Sailor Moon then got sidetracked trying to catch up on The Legend of the Legendary Heroes and Fairy Tail for anime club...except that right after that anime club kinda stopped meeting due to a lack of new members. So I ended up finishing Legend on my own and I'm thinking I'll go ahead and finish what I have of Fairy Tail (which will nearly catch me up to Japan) before getting back to Sailor Moon. I also watched Black Rock Shooter, which is cool but leave way too many unanswered questions.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Ah Black Rock Shooter. A huge disappointment, IMO. While the action was great, it was really unnecessary to switch back and forth between the two worlds. Making the end the beginning of the other world's events just felt kind of stupid since we all ready watched it all. As for the end after the credits, Mato sure is bad at giving equal attention to both of her friends, isn't she?
As for everything unanswered, apparently the PSP game will fill the rest.

Ok, so this isn't anime, but it is awesome. Have any of you heard of Doctor Who? Long story short, it's about an alien who travels through time in space in a blue police box that's bigger on the inside. Shauni should know about it, it being a very British show, but it's on BBC America and it is very awesome. Just last week there was an episode written by Neil Gaiman! It's unbelievably awesome and there's a marathon next week on Saturday, so it'd be a great place to get started.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
I'm pretty sure most people have heard of Doctor Who, also it's not a very Bristtish show. It is a Brittsh show. In other words I love it and am waiting for the next episode in the 6th (new) series. So far I'm liking Matt more then David as the doctor. And Trying to work out who I like better out of Donna and Amy.
In the meantime I saw Pirates of the Carribean 4 a couple days ago. It was Awesome. Nuff said. ^_^

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
I didn't particularily mind the world switching or forwards backwards progress in Black Rock Shooter, though it probably would have been better if the end (the before the credits one) was the scene with Dead Master's defeat, rather than the one where Mato meets BRS. You've got a point about Mato though. You'd think it wouldn't be hard to have two close friends... As for the game, I'm happy NIS already picked it up for a US release, but from what I heard, it's set in a completely different universe than the OVA, so I don't have high hopes of it filling in the gaps in the plot.
I know of Dr. Who. Haven't watched any of it though. I might, someday.
Hoping to see Pirates 4 soon. I was planning to do yesterday, but didn't cause of the tabletop game I mentioned in my PV news post. I'll probably go later this week or over the weekend. And I've got a friend here who is crazy about Kung Fu Panda so there's so a good chance I'll be see it later this week as well.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Ah yes, saw Pirates 4 last week. It was cool. Action and humor matched up to the first three so it didn't disappoint. Story was a little odd, but all right. It was much better than I expected overall. But it's Pirates, so it's hard to mess it up, right?
Other than that, just got caught up with Tiger and Bunny, an anime airing this season. Definitely giving this one a recommendation. It's like, commercial superheroes and all... ah, here. Viz licensed it and have it streamed for free on Hulu. You can check it out for yourself.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Finished Sailor Moon (the first series) so I decided to take a quick break and watch Ichigo 100% before moving on to Sailor Moon R.
Outside of anime, most of the shows I watch on regular TV are on off season (Fringe, Psyche, Castle, Simpsons, Futurama) but I've got Mythbusters, Bizzare Foods, and A Game of Thrones (a shockingly good adaptation of the fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire).

So, prepare for Type Moon's big crossover:

It looks like it's going to be hilarious. Even better if you've read the VNs.

Seriously? That will be interesting... And hopefully really funny. Though I'm more looking forward to the Fate/Zero anime.

Idolmaster anime start!
Seriously, I was excited for this anime for so many reasons.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
I've finished Sailor Moon R. To avoid getting tired of Sailor Moon, I'm going to take a break and watch Rune Knight before moving on to S. I saw part of Rune Knight a long time ago at anime club but missed the last part for some reason, so it'll be nice to finally see the whole thing. I'm watching Durarara!! since they just started playing it on Cartoon Network. It's not bad so far, though I have no clue where it's going.
