Dunno if I'm butting in where I'm unwanted, but here's a few things I keep in mind when drawing realistically:
- What Sira said
- the width of the head is approximately equal to the width of five eyes (viewed from the front)
- the widest part of the nose usually reaches the inside corner of the eyes (again viewed from the front...)
- the corners of the mouth are about where the pupils of the eyes are, if the person is looking straight forward
- the lower lip tends to be larger than the upper, and the upper lip tends to be darker (this changes with light source and viewing angle, though)
- the eye level is about halfway down the head. The bottom of the nose, half the way down from the eyes. The edge of the bottom lip, half the way again from the bottom of the nose. Also, the distance from the forehead to the top of the nose, from the top of the nose to the bottom, and from the bottom of the nose to the chin tend to be roughly equivalent (the exact proportion varies depending on the individual, but for drawing without a model, that should work fine)
...Yeah dunno if any of that was of any help. 8D'
