desu: A verb literally meaning "it is so", it's a sentence ending often used if the sentence isn't ended with a different verb. Desu is the formal non-past tense.

da: the informal form of desu

deshi-ta: the formal past form of desu

datta: the past informal form of desu

dewa arimasen: the formal non-past negative form of desu

arimasen deshi-ta: the formal past negative form of desu

nai: non-past informal negative form of desu

dewa nai: negative past informal version of desu
