Smile

The world frowns on me because I smile.
I smile at the world because it frowns.
Would a frown help cheer the world?
If it could then maybe I would.


Love

Love, a word amongst friend.
But alas no longer is it among friends.
A word twisted, distorted, no longer holds its meaning.
A word so defined, so unerring, never fails to fail.

A love in lust is soon in crumbles.
A love for two soon therein destroys.
A love based on friends never lasts a chance.
The love we have now just doesn't hold sway.

Love is now meant as partnership forever.
No longer does love pertain to friends.
Not for "love you like a sister," or "I love you, bro."
Can we no longer love when it is not attached to sex?

So what is love?
This answer is beyond all guess.
It is lost amongst the mess.
But someday we all will stumble upon it,
And we all will scrape it off the bottom of our shoe.


Secret

Do you have a secret?
Naturally you do,
But you don't have to hide it
You only would want to.

Don't have to carry this weight,
Never feared for your life,
Well it's just not on your plate
To suffer this much strife.

Ridiculous, that's your call.
One slip, one mistake soon
And perhaps I'll lose it all.
Friends, future, all'll be strewn.

Seems like a silly secret,
something to push aside,
It's not a crime to commit
No reason to be tried.

So come on people
I have nothing to hide.


Forbidden

You'll never know,
It is forbidden,
So for now we'll just be good friends.

Every time I am near you, I am happy,
But it's tearing through me,
And I can never tell you.

It is best you never know,
For your career, maybe for mine,
But most of all, so that we remain friends.

One of these days I may find someone to replace you,
Someone less forbidden.


Pain

Another day, another name
Lost, they are all the same.
A frequent wish, a normal life
Sans all the days I'd maim.
A new moves in, usurps your throne,
A thorn upon my brain;
Again to deal with all this strife
To dwell again in pain.

A simple task, a silly choice,
With all rest on my voice.
To choose adventure or my heart,
Odd way for fling to start.
One day, perhaps, this choice will change
And lost will be our love,
Until that day our love will range,
No passion bereft of.

To break the speed and go astray
Of the time, such is life,
A fickle being. Unheard is
Its work, spreading such in
Time. And yet now day after day
sliding as that keen knife,
It minces our plots, as in his
plays, razing where its been.


At Love's End

Perhaps it is our time to end,
You should still know that I'm your friend.

I never did intend
To bring our love to this.
I know it won't emend
To send you one last kiss.
Perhaps your luck will send
A guy to soothe the muss.
I did not mean to spend
Your time and cause you fuss.
I did not dare pretend,
That thought you must dismiss.

So if you choose to reminisce
Do never think it ill of us
Because our love was not godsend
But give it time, the wounds will mend.


Friends

E'en in the darkest of despair
You will find that I am still there,
To ever keep you company
Quite surely friend you'll count on me.

I will not run
When you need aid.
It couldn't be done,
I'm unafraid.

Tomorrow and the next, you'll see,
To a tolerable degree,
I will always lend thee my care,
I have enough of it to spare.

I will not fail
When it's for you.
In e'er detail
My life into.

Oh friend, could I just die for you
To keep you alive always new,
A beacon to all the ages, yet
Would you take it and me forget?

I will not cry
If I could see
You happy by
another he.
If only you knew
My feelings for you.


Hello

Are you like me?
A stranger here
A new kind bound
Not to old pair.

Could I just see?
Another kin
One whose love found
Diff'rent begin.

Would this now be?
Alike we've seem
With love unsound
To live this dream.

Where then are we?
Maybe we've seen
Each other bound
to love serene.

May I ask thee?
Unlikely cross
Of our paths round
Just for my loss.

Will now it flee?
The chance I saw
To scathing wound
It now withdraw.

Do you agree?
Or I should take
My love misfound
And new love make.

Is love not free?
It makes mistakes
It will rebound
Through all its aches.

It is a key
That frees our life
in ways profound
through all its strife.
More than the sea
Its effect spans
More lives surround
In its strange plans.
Don't seek this glee
It comes to you
Else in it drowned
Before it true.
In end you'll find
How sage the blind.


I'll let you interpret them as you will, a true work of art wouldn't need explanation, but I recognize one reference that may be lost in this day and age. Cupid used to be personified as blind in many of Shakespeare's works and elsewhere. You know, "love is blind." That's where the last line of Hello comes from.

Thank you. I'm glad that they are appreciated. Unfortunately, my muse is well versed in sorrow, so I don't tend to do many artistic things, but when I do, it comes in a bunch. That also has something to do with my attention span.

Then there's the poems that don't fit into this forum, because I do not think some would appreciate my... point of view. So this might be the last bit I post in a while. I was thinking on expanding it, but then- I did say I have a short attention span, didn't I?


It is nice to finally be free,
yet being me is not so me.
I get to break out of my shell,
Yet not- that shell is e'er my hell.
To finally have someone know,
but th' me I know is not on show.

I hide behind this smile you see
Now you can't see me.
I hide behind these words I say
Now you can't hear me.
I hide behind this skin I wear,
Behind the emotions,
Behind the commotions,
Behind your conventions,
Behind these pretentions,
Now you can't feel me,
Can't reach me. I'm safe.

I haven't written anything in a while except this. I actually had fun writing it, though.

A Day's Dream

Now I lay me down to sleep,
The fruit of day are mine to keep.
I hope that fate has watchful eyes,
Though it will bring my own demise.

If e'er my day do run astray,
I'll know that sleep comes anyway.
It's loving lies will hypnotise,
And wash away the day's disguise.

To dream again it brings a bliss,
With friendship, fun, and true love's kiss.
The light of night lies in the mind,
To fight the sight of day's foul bind.

And yet, alas, it comes and goes,
As bright and short as gifted rose.
Each day begins, we start anew,
Into the life we thought we knew.

I don't know whether I like it better with "begins," or "again" in the second to last line, but I think "begins" is more appropriate for the meter. Now that I think of it, the meter seems a little off with "again" and "foul" in the third verse, but I don't care that much.

No Matter What You Think

You think you are alone,
Conforming in this world;
Completely on your own,
Against the world you're hurled.
Without the peace of mind
in meeting those allied,
You think it hard to find,
Then flee to the inside.
Do not be so resigned
In how the world's comprised;
Sometimes it seems unkind,
You might just be surprised.
How else can you be shown
That you are not alone.

Our First Kiss

It's happening
I've waited so long for this
You're in my arms
We're exchanging a tender kiss
You're beautiful
More so than in my dreams
It's wonderful
And the world's right it seems

As plain as day
Is our bond to each other
I never thought
This soon I'd call you 'lover'
Here by your side
Never say the night is done
I want to stay
So I slam the snooze button

String

Just within my reach
I leap and it moves away
Taunting me after each
As if it were in play
It will be mine this time
I will capture my prey
It will pay for it's crime
For my peace it did breach

One claw into it sunk
I've got it now it's mine
Soon struggle stays it's spunk
And teeth make it resign
On top of me it rests
Not fooled by it's decline
I ignore what it suggests
Its death I will debunk

Late

I hesitated
And you waited.
My doubt abated
A year too late.

We were together.
I, through bad weather,
Redressed the tether
A year too late.

What should I do
After I love you
To leave it askew
A year too late?

Sorry

I'm sorry I let you down
After all, I'm not always around
My day is ruled by my work
So sorry you often feel shirked
Only if I had the time to
Return to debts longs overdue
Really, I would love to spend all my time with
You my friend

Our Rock

There's a rock
On a hill
We all have to push
At the top
It just will
Roll back down the side
Finished we
Bask a bit
Feeling accomplished
Finally
We admit
The job is not done

Years later
We will find
The hill gets larger
Just to not
Get behind
We will work longer
As our young
State of mind
Wears away from us
We fall in
Quite resigned
Joyless in our work

Apathetically Linear

As time goes on
From nothingness
We start to press
Into our dawn

As time goes by
We learn to walk
And soon we talk
It seems to fly

Time marches by
No sidewards glance
As in a trance
No last goodbye

Time marches on
We find our way
Through every day
Until we're gone

Rain

Walking in the rain
Wash away the pain
Dark storm clouds release
A life giving peace
Clear out the air
So we may prepare
To try again once more
Rain clouds please just pour

Dissolve the world here
Into a dark smear
Down in the gutter
Goes all the clutter
Leave us all renewed
Everything subdued
Wipe the world clean
To bask in its old sheen

A break from all the noise
That finds and then destroys
The life we grew into
Show what we're deaf to
Help us then see through
The lies we take for true
Let us dance in the rain
For it causes no pain

Saturday

So close
A mad dash
To the end
Unfulfilled
Reaching for the
Day which
All of us
Yearn

Futile

At a crossroad
Every direction
seems to forebode
Every rejection

Sitting with you
Every last minute
I would see through
Every lie remit

I could not care
Every pain undone
Keeping it fair
You still would not won
