Online RPG Threads
Here you can discuss games like World of Warcraft, Club Penguin, Mabinogi, Maplestory, and Runescape.
Anyway, the only one I'm currently playing now is Runescape, it's a cool game. I guess I can play it until I get my 360 fixed.

Re: Online RPG Threads
Runescape... haven't played in a loooong time. I was a member for a few months... about two years ago. Haven't played since, 'cept to randomly go on for like 10 mins. Can't do much with my main, though. Bank is filled with member items, so I can't withdraw stuff 'cos I don't have the room to put it back. Lovely. I think my combat lvl was either low eighties or high seventies... had a pretty good construction, too. Oh, and crafting as well as runecrafting. From the few times I've visitied, I'm pretty sure RS has gone majorly downhill... like, PvP servers are crap. Wilderness ISN'T PvP!? MADNESS!
Another MMORPG I haven't played in a while... Tibia. No one's ever heard of it. My friend showed it to me a while ago. There are 3 types of servers you can play on: Non PvP, PvP and PvP Enforced. Of course, my friends and I played on PvP E. Fun stuff. What always frusturated me, though, is when you die you lose exp. This'll even downgrade you a level sometimes, which is not fun. Then you can't use spells you used to be able to.... *grumbles about how she couldn't use the highest level healing spell for more than 10 minutes because she died about 3 different times upon reaching lvl 21* But, a thing I liked about that game, is after you learn spells, you don't just click a button. You have to say them. Of course, you can just set them to your hotkeys, which is the smarteest thing to do in case you blank on the name of a healing spell in a time of need, but it's cooler, in my opinion. Instead of clicking a button that makes your character do an animation for the spell, you type in something like "exura gran" and your charcter says that, it sparkles, and you gain hp (I think that was the mid lvl healing spell... I know "exura" was the weakest and I'm pretty sure "exura ultima" was the highest).

Re: Online RPG Threads
I've tried a lot of RPG (namely MMORPG, I think you mean?) games but haven't stayed for long on most of them... so I guess I won't try listening all the ones I"ve tried but only what I'm playing now.
I'm doing really well on Mabinogi and people consider me pretty decent but I've gotten bored of it since my entire guild moved on to DFO.
On the topic of DFO (Dungeon Fighters Online), it's pretty freaking awesome. It's a mix of a 2D-scroller and a MMORPG all mashed up with classic action-game-styled graphics and gameplay. o3o Not sure if that's accurate, but it's how I describe it, mostly. Anybody else on here play? xD
I also have a few servers of Ragnarok Online I enjoy but I don't play that much either, probably for similar reasons as Mandi and also because I've gotten tired of the simple...ness of the game system. It's not bad, but sometimes challenge is nice; and I've been playing on RO for so long that even though new 3rd classes just recently came out, they were all mostly based off previous 2nd classes so there's not even that MUCH to play around with... although it did get me back on a few servers to try it out for a few months.

Re: Online RPG Threads
Based on my experiences with 3 powerhouse MMO's (specifically WoW, DAoC, and WAR), I've figured it's best to cut the games into several different categories. These categories would be graphics, PvE, and PvP (seeing as they're usually the main points to an MMO). In my own opinion, these three MMO's would go into the categories like this.
Graphics:
DAoC < WoW < WAR
PvE:
WAR < DAoC < WoW
PvP:
WoW < WAR ~ DAoC
(note: WAR and DAoC each have one enormously positive note and are lacking in the other's note, so I'd say they're roughly even depending on which one is your preference. WAR has the Scenario option, allowing you to go into a quick, 15 min 12v12 match against your opponent which DAoC does not have. However, DAoC's Realm War is both easy to understand and a very intricate part of the game, utterly decimating WAR's failed see-saw zone control layout).
Overall, WAR easily has the best graphics. This should be understandable, as it is the newest game. It's PvE is pretty feeble and some parts of its PvP (specifically the Scenario system) is very well thought out.
PvE is definitely WoW's area of expertise, having much more to do (and far more leveling, with DAoC capping at 50 and WAR at 40) than it's competitors. The graphics are well done, but they have that cartoon look to them, which rather kills the realism that many people look for. It's PvP is easily the worst of the trio, with the laughable Arena option as a prime example.
DAoC, being the oldest of the three, has the worst graphics. They do try to be realistic instead of WoW's cartoon look, but that still doesn't hide the fact that there's really not too much detail in the characters. The PvE is quite well done, with a lot to do (5 expansions plus 2 free addons such as housing) but the expansion Trials of Atlantis was truly its downfall. The game's PvP makes up for this with its Realm War system - invade other countries and take their keeps or artifacts, or defend your own (more than a few guilds would do no more than walk between keeps for hours, proudly defending their own country).

Re: Online RPG Threads
WoW sounds a bit too overrated to me. I've tried playing it once, and it was really fun. But after I learn people began doing crude things over the internet I just quit playing.

Re: Online RPG Threads
Unfortunately, that's a problem in pretty much every MMO (and most online foums as well).
As for me, I play Guild Wars. It has good graphics, a decent plot, and a structure that doesn't require grinding or spawn camping. It's also very soloable if you can't finda good group to play with. And not monthly fees, which I consider a big plus. I think both the PvE and PvP aspects of it are very good. That said, I dislike monthly fees so most of my experience with MMOs like WoW is from watching friends play and/or listening to friends talk about them.

Re: Online RPG Threads
I would very much like to try out Guild Wars 2 when it comes out, and probably give Guild Wars a shot sometime soon as well. The classes sound interesting, but the Necromancer really doesn't sound that powerful - there's a class with a similar playstyle in DAoC called the Savage, who can sacrifice HP (about 2-5% of your total HP per ability, depending on its strength) for stuff like +parry, +attack speed, or +resistances.

Oh, Necros can be very powerful when played as minion masters (zombie summoners) or in a suport roll (buffing allies or hexig enemies). Primary Necros aren't all really made to be melee fighters though. However, that's what GW's class mixing is for. With the right build, Necro can make an awesome secondary job for a melee fighter. My favorite character is actually an Assassin / Necro. She's a high DPS melee fighter who, thanks to a rather clever build, makes a surprisingly good tank (something Assassins generally suck at).
Re: Online RPG Threads
Oh awesome! The Savage was widely considered a joke in DAoC because their burst was a bit strange - 30 seconds of being really, really good - but as soon as the ability drops and you lose that 5% hp for each ability...well, good luck.
Well I bought the GW Trilogy pack today. If you want you can look up my Prophecies character, Karstaag Frostleaf the Mesmerizer/Elementalist. It's turned into a nice combo so far, lots of DoT's and a couple DD's thrown in too.

Cool, I'll add you next time I'm on. Go ahead and add Keen Anor when you get the chance. Speaking of GW, you're welcome to have a place in my friendly but very inactive guild if you'd like. Despite the inactivity though, we do have a cape and guild hall.
Re: Online RPG Threads
Keen Anor? Any chance that's taken from Ka Anor? It's a miracle I remember that name, but it was the name of the main antagonist (well history-wise, he didn't appear much in the series itself) in K.A. Applegate's Everworld. Ka Anor was an abomination, an alien God whose sacrifice of choice wasn't humans or animals, but other Gods. So when he came to Everworld, he started feasting on all the Gods of all the human religions.
Anyways, back on topic (I think I've read too many books), I would love in a guild! You can only really go so far in an MMO on your own before getting tired in my opinion. Oh, one more question, are you able to play Factions and Nightfall without needing to finish Prophecies? I'm sort of an altoholic and I'm tempted to give the 4 new classes a try, but I don't want to skip ahead in the story.

Not familiar with Everworld. My character name is based on something entirely different.
Chronologically, the story in the games goes: Prophecies > Factions > Nightfall > Eye of the North. Though, you wouldn't miss all that much if you skipped some of the story line in Prophecies or Factions (they didn't get a decent writer till Nightfall). From a gameplay perspective, you can start a new character in either of the three campaigns. Existing characters can travel between the three campaigns once they've progressed far enough in the story (in Prophecies, you need to reach Lion's Arch, in Factions, Kaineng Center, and in Nightfall you just need to keep playing till the docks in Kamadan open up). Though characters that do so will miss out on the first part of the story in whatever other campaign they travel to. FYI: Prophecies has the slowest pacing of the three games by far. Eye of the North is a bit different and requires a level 20 character (and possibly a completed campaign, but I'm not sure).
I'll go ahead and send you a guild invite (the guild is Guardians of Orca, ROM). Like I said, it's not very active right now, but you can hang out and shop t the hall and I certainly wouldn't mind playing more if I had someone to play with. There's some pretty good incentives for replaying campaigns right now but I don't really feel like doing it on my own.
Speaking of GW, I really need to knuckle down and finish those last couple of missions in Nightfall, though it could be a pain now that they changed the key skill in my Derish's build... I was waiting till after that to start Eye of the North but I got stuck and distracted by other games. Really need to get to it though, I want to play Eye of the North and get my monument.

As much as I wanna play Mabinogi, I can't. Stupid parental controls... :(
Another fact about Mabinogi, I keep hearing people say it's Japanese. It does have the anime artwork, but its Korean.
But anyway, the only MMORPG I'm playing is Runescape, hoping to get World of Warcraft sometime.

People who say Mabinogi is Japanese don't know squat abut it. Mabinogi originated in Korea. There are also versions all over the world, such as Japan Europe and North America. It is, however, a Korean game. Don't use the word fact when not only are you not sure about it, but it's not true.
