Yeah...but I personally think 8 sounds better. I didn't think it mattered, for one.

I mean...in that one Spongebob episode...

There once was a man from Peru
Who dreamed he was eating his shoe
He woke with a fright
In the middle of the night
To find that his dream had come true.

Yes, I have that memorized. But there are 8 syllables lines 1, 2, and 5.
May the Triforce be with you.

Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid." ~ William Ernest Henley

That isn't true.

Lines 1, 2, and 5, need to have the same amount. Lines 3, and 4 do too. Doesn't matter how many.
Did you even fully read the rules, Cheez?

Blue Fire, you're right in that it's the standard form. However, limricks, as long as they involve the rhyme scheme Cheez described, can vary in the amount of syllables.

Saber, that was the same limerick I was thinking of. :-P Gotta love Spongebob. Man, haven't seen it in ages.

As a critic, Blue Fire is strict
Of syllables, he started conflict
I had eight replace nine
I thought that would be fine
For that is the structure I have picked

There's a limerick with nine syllables.

That's not just a Spongebob quote. It's a pretty old limerick.

I'm back from competing today,
And so now I am here to stay.
We lost rather badly,
nearly last place, sadly,
At least our 'bot worked anyway.

While I was gone y'all got in a fight
Over what syllable count was right,
Frankly who really cares
For what could it impair
And you guys should not be so uptight.

Now for a poem that is random
Before I go off on a tandem,
The real rule resides
On the "feet" there insides,
So let this whole deal be abandum.

I need to get back in the race
To keep up with all of y'all's pace
Just look at the posts
It's nothing for boasts
Your lifes this contest must abase.

I'm not going to super strict on syllable count, as long as its looks and sounds ok. Remember, tomorrow is the last day to post entries.

The reason some flow better when read is because of the pattern of stressed beats. I have a problem with that, if you hadn't noticed. Anyway, they are supposed to be 3 feet, or syllabic groupings, of either one or two unstressed then one stressed syllable. I believe the only foot that can be switched for a shorter is the first
But that's not that important.

There once was a boy named Xain
Who was a bit off in the brain;
He always got lost,
Straight lines left him tossed,
But darn if he won't show again.

Sorry, I wasn't done yet.

Cheesey now scrambled to find -
another word that could rhyme
He was so filled with doubt,
so he searched all about,
When he found one, he felt sublime!

________________________________

How much Cheesey loved Rock Band,
Tom Sawyer, Lump, Sea and Sand
Playing was a must,
His drums had now bust,
And this had not gone as planned

The Rock Band drums were bubbling,
The notes he hit were doubling.
A solution he seeked,
The problem had peaked,
The problem he faced was troubling.

On the website what Cheesey found
A solution that was profound
Drums silencers, now
Would fix it somehow
But would run Cheesey short 20 pounds. (Ha! Take that, multi-part limericks!

Not bad Cheez...but that doesn't help you out with the challenge since it's not about Pebble Version.

Anyway, this challenge is over! And the winners are...

1st Place: Siranae with her epic history of Pebble Version! It's long, amusing, is all about PV, and very well constructed (even if she did use eight syllabal lines instead of 9).
2nd Place: Poik's limerick about Xain! Syllabals are a bit off, but it still flows well and it's funny. It was a tough choice between this and the third place winner...
3rd Place: Cheez's limerick about Silver and IPA! The top line is one syllabal too short but it's still good and came close to getting second.

Congrats guy! There'll be a new challenge later this week so look forward to it.

Yeah, I just realized I had the last foot in the first line iambic instead of anapestic. Still, it sounded good to me.
