Also, I just found out that Gears of War 2 isn't going to be released for the PC, which makes me sad. = (

Josiah wrote:Hi! After today I should have more time to spend on forum stuff. And, as I mentioned in my latest news post, my school start date got pushed back till Thursday (plus, since all my classes are Mon, Tue, Wed, I don't even have to go to class at all next week, just do some online stuff) so that means even more free time.

A little help for Saber...
Two trees of heights 20m and 30m have ropes running from the top of one to the bottom of the other. How high above the ground do the ropes intersect?
Seems like you'd need to know how far apart the trees are...
A ladder leans against a house with its base 15 feet from the house. When the ladder is pulled 9 feet farther away from the house, the upper end slides down 13 feet. How long is the ladder?
You need to use the formulas for finding the length of the sides of a triangle in order to solve this. Keep in mind, the ladder, ground, and wall form a triangle.
A rectangular container with base 9 cm by 11 cm has a height of 38.5 cm. Assuming that water expands 10 percent when it freezes, determine the depth to which the container can be filled so that the ice does not rise above the top of the container when the contents freeze.
This is an easy one. Use the demensions in the first sentence to find the volume of the container. Then, determine what number 110% of would equal that volume (solve [1.1 x N = volume] for N). Finally, take N and determine how deep it would fill the container by itself.
Thanks so much!

The first one: That's what I thought too. I drew a diagram and inserted everything I knew, but I still can't find the answer.

The second one: Yeah, just figured it out today at school.

The third one: Thanks. I had an idea about it, but wasn't too sure. With your method, I got 3465, and 3430.35 with mine, but I really have no proof for mine. I'll check around to see what other people got.

Thanks again! I'm starting to feel a bit better about the whole thing, especially since a friend figured out one that was really bugging me and explained it to me, and a junior friend of mine who had the class 2 years ago said he'd help me. He remembered the calendar project (though it's a different set of problems now) from his time.

In other news, I'm starting to enjoy reading Tale of Two Cities more now. It's gotten more interesting, not to mention I've been listening to Les Mis in the background. That seems to help.
May the Triforce be with you.

Hi! I'm kinda depressed. EGM, probably the best video game magazine ever (which I've subscriped to for something like seven or eight years), is shutting down (despite solid sales) because their publisher sold all of the 1Up Network (which handles EGM and the 1Up web site) to another company, who just wanted the website and not the magazine. Even worse, the vast majorty of the staff was let go during the transition so it's not just a matter of switching from the print magazine to the site. :bye:

It was lonely... you promised you'd write to me, but you never did... the months passed by, and I still thought of you every day, but you never called. I never got any letters from you.

So eventually, I started to lose faith... I thought you had been killed in that terrible, terrible war. Or maybe that you had forgotten about me. It's been so long, you probably found another girl over there... I never stopped loving you, but I didn't think you cared about me anymore, so welcoming you back just would have been too painful for me... I'm sorry. I'm glad you've come back home *sniff*

Joystiq had been talking about that for a few days. Never read the magazine, though.

Hey.

Well, I just went to a special tooth guy (dentist-ish-person that isn't my normal dentist or orthodontist, so I'm not sure what to call him) about my wisdom teeth. They're coming in. As in, one of them is already clearly visible. I need to get them pulled. It's probably gonna be done either during April Vacation (which would make me ever so sad, as we normally go to Virginia) or in June, after school lets out. This would be because you usually can't do anything for three or four days. So yeah. Fourteen years old. Wisdom teeth. I must be super smart, or something. :-P .

And the calendar project continues to ruin my life. Oh, Josiah, I did figure out the one with the two trees 20 and 30 feet tall. It had to do with triangle similarity . Answer is 12.

Probably going to have to make a whole topic on this project with the rest of the ones I don't know. I think I have 15 or so to go, and they're pretty darn hard.
May the Triforce be with you.

I'm 18 and mine haven't come out yet. :O
As part of getting braces, I did have X-rays taken, and most of them are growing sideways or at an angle...but no issues there yet. I probably won't get them pulled for a while.
Konnichiwa. Found out today that two of my classes are placed close enough that I barely have time to go back to my dorm, pick up my laptop, grab lunch, and then walk to the next class. I have about 40 minutes in between. So...short... ><'

Wow, that is early, mine didn't come in until last year! Congratulations, I think?

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that Josiah. I never read the magazine, but it must have been good if you subscribed for so long. Corperations can be so inconsiderate.

I had braces a while ago. They were the reason behind my first cavity (it formed under the brace, so I couldn't brush at it >,># ) But nowadays I just have a night retainer. I've yet to get my wisdom teeth.

Hi! Never had braces or anything like that myself. My wisdom teeth started coming in a long time ago and a couple of them still aren't in all the way. My dentist wanted to pull them but, upon further questioning, his only reason was that if I didn't brush them well enough I might get a cavity...which you could say about all my teeth. So I decided to save the $1000 and leave them in unless absolutely neccessary.

Heso!

Kaida hasn't gotten her wisdom teeth yet. She might not get them at all, even though she was hoping to get them.

And Kaida's been busy... Kaida has current obsession with Battle Revolution/ Pokemon Pearl. And Twilight Princess (Squeee!) ^_^.

Hey.

So, I get to read 80 pages of Tale of Two Cities by Tuesday. It's really not too much, if you spread it out through the days, but I kinda freaked out when I first saw the assignment. Oh, and the calendar project. That too.

Just got back from a hockey party. I ate too much, as usual. >.<
