ROM 3: Shadows of Souls

"You ok?' *Josiah helped Virgo up.*

"Yes. Her attack didn't do much damage."

"Was that really Jeff?" *David wasn't sure exactly how to feel. He and Jeff hadn't parted on the best terms.*

"Who know?" *Josiah sounded tired and frustrated.* "It's possible. Or it could be just another dark world monster trying to trick us. But if that is Jeff there's something wrong with him again. The real Jeff would never do something that like to Shauni. And here I thought things would get better when we defeated Moen..."

"It's not your fault." *Virgo put her arm around his shoulders.* "Moen tried to harness the power of the dark world and obviously failed. He probably would have done it eventually no matter what we did."

*A series of explosions suddenly rocked the quiet forest.*

"Fudge crackers! Sounds like something's fighting out there!" *Silver pointed into the forest where the noises were coming from.*

"We'd better check it out." *Josiah sighed.* "Be careful everyone."

"snake bite!"
Unicoco had launched number after number of dark fire balls at Jeff, but he dodged everyone of them
"Ha! that all you got?"
Unicoco jumped away from him as he began to launch his own attacks
"Beats King!" ((I dont know what attacks you had in mind, so I made this one up, I hope that's ok))
Jeffs hand lit in burning hot flame, and then he launched it at Unicoco, she evaded the brunt but it struck her, and she fell to the ground
"Dont make me laugh shauni, you are no match for me"
Unicoco narrowed her eyes and began to pull herself up from the ground while slowly saying
"I...am....not shauni!"
She held out both her arms and began to chant, her arms lit up with white light
"Holy Draw!"
She yelled and quickly two daggers materialized from the light, she jumped into the air and then dive bombed at Jeff, but despite her best efforts, Jeff evaded it again, resulting in Unicoco crashing into the ground, in pain, she rolled over, defeated
"I....I am not pathetic"
Jeff stood over her and grinned erriorly "Yes you are"
He kicked dust in her face, and then began to walk of
Unicoco tried one last time to pull herself up, Jeff stopped and turn slightly, to see her barley able to stand...but she was standing
"I am NOT pathetic"
"What? you want more? Ha, fine"
Before he could attack again Josiah and the others had come apron them
"O, backups here, I guess we part ways, until your alone next time"
He despaired back into the shadows, Unicoco staggered two steps in vain to follow him, before she fell to the floor again
"I....will kill you...."

*Sees the half-Shauni and half-Jeff* "We should just walk away, right now..."

"Why? We'll never figure out what's going on if..."

"Great. Now there's no need for a Comic Relief? What a rip off..."

Unicoco swiftly turned around to see the group coming closer to her.
her first instinct was to ran of after Jeff, but she could not move, so she stayed where she was and watched them slowly walk towards her
"I guess I need a little more practice before I can rip his head of" she added as Josiah edged towards her
"Where...where you sincere when you spoke of killing everyone?"
Unicoco looked down at the ground and suck her head "No, now I only want to kill him"
Josiah looked back in supirse "What? Jeff...but you...he"Unicoco looked at Josiah "Hes not him anymore, and I'm not her, hes just some guy that humiliated me, and cut me deeper that any other....and I will have retribution"
Josiah closed his eyes in sadness "I never thought I would see the day when I hear these words....from you"
Unicoco looked away from him "I am not that person anymore, I...I am so confused about everything....except that that creature was not the Jeff I....she fell in love with, and just seeing him makes me feel weaker"
Unicoco pulled herself up on Josiahs clothing, she looked over at Virgo
"I am truly sorry for what I did to you Virgo, I would understand if you hated me"
"I...I dont""Thank you"
"Are you going to stay with us?"
Unicoco looked the group over "Perhaps if I stick around with you I will get some stronger opponents to train against, I need to be powerful to destroy that thing..."
"Then, what should we call you...Unicoco?"
Unicoco suck her head "I can understand why that would be weird for you...why no just Uni for now"
Josiah noded "Ok 'Uni', I have a few questions"

Unicoco had been healed yet again by Virgo
"You know Uni, you shouldn't let yourself get so beat up..."
Unicoco looked up at her, at first with narrowed eyes, but that quickly melted as she saw the look of concern that had consumed Virgo's face
"your...your right, I just go crazy...its like I'm a monster"
Virgo smiled softly "dont anymore, you need focus"Unicoco nodded "Your right...I need to focus, I'm so messed up in my head its making me weak...I need to focus on one thing...killing Jeff"
Virgo frowned and stepped back "Thats...not exactly what I ment"
Unicoco said the words again "I will kill Jeff"
It was almost as if they bured her tongue as they left, deep down inside there was still love for him, but Unicoco quickly suppressed it
"No...I WILL kill Jeff, that is why I am, why I exist....why I must..pull it together, I need to focus"
She closed her eyes and pushed her feeling deep down inside
She spoke the words again ""I will kill Jeff"
This time they did not burn....
Virgo walked over to Josiah and whispered in his ear "I think we have lost her....."

"Well, she seems to trust you, at least a little." *Josiah whispered back.* "But even if she's serious about not wanting to hurt us, I want you to keep an eye on her. She's a bit unstable and I don't want to be caught off guard if she suddenly changes her mind. Also, I don't want her killing that lion creature until we find out if it's really Jeff or not."

*Virgo nodded.* "I'll fight her if I have to, although I'd rather not."

"Hopefully things won't come to that. But I don't want her killed either. There's got to some way to change her back to normal. I'm guessing you two are pretty evenly matched so if it comes down to a fight just try and keep her busy."

"What are you two talking about?"

"Nothing."

"Then can we get moving? I want to get to Vahallo. I just hope it isn't like Onett..."

"This entire world can't be empty. There's spirits so there should be people as well."

*Uni followed silently after the others as they continued on through the forest.*

Uncoco was silent for most of the way to Vahallo.
They finaly reached it after a days walk
"Wow...."
They looked apon a Vahallo they did not know, it was dark and opressive, and the ocean was frozen solid....
"Ok, this is not what I remeber..."

"Is it just me or does this place look like a ghost town?"

"Looks aren't always decieving..."

"Is it just me or is this place CREEPY BEYOND ALL FUDGE CRACKERS?!"

"Hold on, I know that voice..."

"You should..."

"Yeah, so do I... sounds like someone that always annoys me."

"Which means it has to be..."

"GOLD!"

"Well, now that that's been cleared up..." *Comes out from Shadows, but is, well, a ghost and semi-transparent* "You got me stuck in this game forever when you found all those mutation cards and chose not to leave the game, and now... I'll get my revenge!"

"Hold on, can I ask a question first?"

"Uh... sure."

"Why are you a ghost?"

"Well, it's a long story..."

"Yay, story time!"

"I hate you..."

"Less hating, more story telling! Don't make me get Toshi out here..."

"You still have that thing?! Ok, uh... well, like I said it's a long story... I had been spying on you for a while, to see if you had even come close to figuring out how to leave the game. Once you discovered the powers of the mutation monsters I left, which Is why you saw me at that tournament. Well, I figured if I helped Silver win I could get them from him easily..."

"Hey!"

"...but my poisonous plan didn't seem to work. I thought it was simple enough for a monkey, too!"

"Hey!"

"So I continued trying to find other ways to get back to my world. Crystal thought she found a way, but... she just disappeared, I don't know where she ended up. Anyway, I heard you turned down your one shot at getting out of this accursed game, so I made sure I'd catch you and give you what you deserve! But two years of no luck. Finally I cought up as you were about to fight Moen, and since you did me the courtesy of showing me through the castle, I had no problems. I finally found my final shot at getting out, and you kill her! The hacker that brought us here in the first place, and you kill her!"

"Hey! We didn't kill her, Moen did!"

"It doesn't matter, she's dead either way. Just like I was; since I'm technically an NPC, even if it is from another world, the darkness was like that poison combo I showed Silver how to do so long ago. Fortunately for me, since I'm an NPC from another game, I'm not finished just yet! I get to come back as a ghost to put an end to the people that trapped me here once and for all!"

"Uh... Silver, you're good at stalling... and he doesn't look all too happy..."

"Right... Wow, that was a long story! Would you mind repeating it?"

Unicoco looked Gold over once and tured away
"What harm can the dead do?"
Gold began to raise his voice "U'll see...wait...who the hell are you???"
Unicoco smiled "I'm the one that trapped yu here" she smiled eraly at him "Let me set you free"
Gold began to smile "Wait! You have the power to send me home!"
Unicoco suck her head "No, I have the power to obliterate you"
Silver stped infront of Unicoco, blocking her view of Gold, who at this point was enraged
"Uni, dont wind this guy up ok, leave it to me"
Unicoco looked blankly at Silver and then smiled "Ok, this should be a laugh"Silver frowned "HAy, cut a guy some slack, I can deal with this myself"
Unicoco noded "Ok tiger, go get em"
"Dont call me tiger"

Neo finally found his way out of the forest. Though the change wasn't much. He had found his way into a town that didn't seem familiar to him. Well, nothing of this world did. It was almost like a compleate opposite of the one he had just been in. "I wonder if there are people here?" Neo holds up a card "Drop, use Flash Light to light things up." Soon Drop appeared from his card and an area of light showed up around them.

Neo wondered into afew buildings but only found empyness. He was about to leave town when he heard voices. Not wanting to be discovered, he returned Drop to it's card and headed over.

"Hey! We didn't kill her, Moen did!"

"It doesn't matter, she's dead either way. Neo hid behind the side of a building just barily peeking past it to see what was going on. His heart jumped abit. People...

Unicoco suddenly pulled awy from the conversation
"Enought talking to ghosts...I smell something"
Everyone else sniffed up, but didnt smell anything unsual
Neo clentched his fists tightly and retracted himself fearther behind the wall, the weird fairy thing he had assumed was a person at first was staring towards his location
Unicoco began to strom of
"hay wait! Im ranting here!"
Silver stood in his way "Errmm...shes alittle weird, so....tll us more stuff...ahm"
Unicoco came right to the location Neo was hidding, sweat forming on his head
"Please dont let it find me..." he prayed to himself
Unicoco came around the corner and saw the small human tightly raped in a ball on the floor
Unicoco looked at him blankly, unsure what to make of him
"......"
He stared back at her
"......hi?"
She smiled at the sight of the meek figure
"ha, so, your Neo I see"
"Wh...what? you know me?"
Unicoco noded "Of course I do, dont worry, I wont hurt you"
She held out a hand and pulled him up
"I'm Unicoco," she then pointed at the others "The tall ones Josiah, the girls vrigo, the loud mouth is silver and the one at the back is David...o, and the dead guy is called Gold"
Neo gulped "what?...dead guy?"
Unicoco smiled "dont worry, i will explain everthing later, I know your a gamer like them"
"Wait...there...real?"
Unicoco noded again "Yes, and so am I"
She dragged Neo to the others
"Hay guys, I got a live one here, this is the other gamer that the lord has been watching, I only know about him because Unisha was supposed to watch him, he has his own shadow of souls and everthing!"
They all tured around, except silver who was still talking to Gold
"What?"

"Hey! Stop ignoring me!!!"

"Get a grip Gold. We're not any happier about this situation than you are. And ghost or not any of us can probably still beat you." *Josiah grinned.* "Hey Virgo, let's see how your healing spell effects ghosts."

"Ack! No!!! Ok, I won't attack you." *Gold muttered sullenly.*

"Back to the matter at hand." *David stared pointedly at the new comer.*

"Wait," *Gold interrupted again,* "if you're not going help me return home the least you could do is return me to my body. I'd do it myself but I'm a ghost so I can't." Being a ghost sucks.

"Really? But you can go around scaring people! It'd be fun!"

*Uni turned and gave Gold and appraising look. Did he really know about the Dark Shrines? She wasn't sure if that would be a good or bad thing.*

"And you know how we can do it?"

"Yes. Being a ghost lets you find things out. Anyway, Orca didn't exactly collapse. It merged with the Dark World although the normal Orca's energy was sealed away making the Dark World is the dominant part. But there's a way to unseal it and return the world, more or less, to normal. In each monsther shrine you'll find a secret passage leading to an underground cavern. Hidden in the deepest part of that cavern is a dark shrine. If you destroy the dark energy inside the dark shrine, that will free the original Orca's energy and return that part of Orca to normal, or at least close to normal, I think..." 

"You think?"

"We should try." *Virgo spoke up.* "If there's any chance of fixing the world we can't pass it up."

"Sure is better than just wandering aimlessly." *Josiah agreed.* "Let's go!" *He noticed Neo hanging back.* "Oh hey, new guy, you can come if you want. I'm sure we all have questions for you and you probably want to know about us too. Just be warned that we tend to end up in pretty dangerous situations."

"Um, ok..." *Neo followed after the others.*

*Uni followed as well, unsure if she should try to help them find the Dark Shrine or try to stop them.*

They decided to start with the shrine nearest them, where they had met Nurse Ojy ((rom one))
Unicoco was very uneasy by now, the dark shrines where also the keys to the shadow of souls power, being half shadow of soul, she was unsure what this ment for her, somber and silent she followed them anyway

After a few moments they arrived at the shrine, it was all over grown and abandoned
"This doesn't look good..."
"So Gold, were is this secret entrance"
He pointed in a general direction "Over there somewhere, behind a bush or something, there should be a switch, push it and the door to the dark shrine will open. I found it myself but I cant destroy the shrine like this, I need you to do it"
Everyone began looking in the direction gold has pointed, except Unicoco who watched
She began to mutter to herself
"If they destroy all the Dark Shrines Orca will begin to be resorted to a sort of normality, but it also ment that aspects of the dark world would be destroyed, and I am apart of that world",
with reservation she to began to look, but she was torn, she wanted to destroy the lord, but if she helped them destroy the shrines, she would get weaker...and if they destroyed all of them, she didn't even know what would happen...

Neo followed the group to the nearest shrine. He had been here on his way to town (after the group had been there) but didn't noticed any switch. But he begain to look for one anyway. He looked in everyplace where a switch could be. He decideded to lean on a tree to get some rest. He felt something give and sure enough a door opened on the Shrine.

"Um guys? Look over there."
