Megatokyo

Post by Josiah »

I wouldn't surprised if most of you have already read this, but then again, maybe you haven't.

Megatokyo
Plot: Megatokyo is one of the longest running and most popular web manga. Best friends Piro (a big fan of Japanese games, particularily dating sims) and Largo (a l33t PC and console gamer) end up stranded in Japan and have to get by, make a living, and the like. Except it all gets a whole lot more complicated pretty quickly as Piro finds himself dealing girls, relationships, and his own personal problems. Largo, meanwhile, has to deal with zombies, giant monsters, and secret agents. If you couldn't figure it out, Piro's parts of the story tend towards more serious stuff while Largo's are pretty crazy, making for a rather interesting mix. The first few strips aren't all that great but things pick up fairly quickly once they get to Japan.
Art: The art starts out alright and gets very very good as time goes on. It's pretty much all black and white though.
Things to Know: Aside from the main plot, there's some bonus arcs that come between the main chapters that do things like parody various anime or follow the adventurers of Piro and Largo's characters inside some game or another.
Favorite Strips: I have some...but I'll have to find them later. Homework and all that...

I haven't and I've been enjoying it. Of course, I have been delayed in reading it and am only through 171, but I am going to finish this, especially since I was going to read it before but never got the time. Now I have another excuse. Anyway. One of my favorites thus far is the Rent-a-Zilla arc... All the others I forgot to take note of, and my memory is horrible. Worse than a sieve.

With my abridged knowledge of the comic I would like to comment that I like the art, he does well within the style that he's set up for himself, but I would like to see colored strips. Does he do that later? The plot is unique or then was so I think, at least from the comics I've read. I am quite amused by his characters' hues, and how they are sick in the head.
Yes I still feel sick, how'd you notice? I'm delirious again? Get me away from the keyboard then! Gah!
Hmm... This signature just got really short...

Unfortunately, aside from a few specials here and there, he never does switch to color comics. Speaking of favorites, one of my favorite arcs is when Largo and Erika get to know each other better. But I think you've still got quite a ways to go before that.

Okay...didn't get the chance to read too much...but I read more than 50, and that's all I need. :P
Haven't gotten far enough in the plot to say too much about it, sadly. Seems interesting, though. I'm going to try my best to find time to read more.
The art is nothing special, but I've seen much worse. I can easily deal with this, and it probably gets better.
Here is my sole favorite comic as of now.
Bleh...this hardly counts, but I read them in time...right?
May the Triforce be with you.

And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid." ~ William Ernest Henley
