Ugh, my mom's computer... I typed this all up yesterday, but apparently it didn't go through, so I'll try this again...

Paper, Pencils, and Poetry all exist without scientists. So does manga. One Piece is, first and foremost, a manga. Therefore One Piece exists without scientists.

Astral Omega wrote:Science is awesome! Where would we be without scientists?

Scientists suck? Well how are you able to give this view to everyone reading this page? Scientists! How are you able to flush the toilet? Get medication when you’re sick? Drive to work or school? Scientists! All those video games and animes you love- you owe it to scientists!
Not only did I not say anything about science, just those that use it as a career, but (as Josiah said), we have inventors, engineers, doctors, and plumbers to thank for all of those. If you're going to go out and create something that will actually benefit the human race, more power to you. But if you're going to sit around in a lab making things explode or launching things into space... you're only wasting time, money, and your life. It especially bothers me when it's related to evolution or the Big Bang Theory. People have been debating for decades whether they actually happened or not... to which I say, does it matter at all? We exist now, and knowing how we came to exist isn't going to change that. Unless, of course, they take this "Recreating teh Big Bang" thing too far, in which case it may change the fact that we exist.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

You forget, these are French Scientists. They were sick of us making fun of them so they couldn't care less about the world. Just kidding.
But, from all I've heard, it can end the world 4 different ways not including mixes of each. It could cause a black hole, start a miniature big bang, create strange particles which would engulf the world in 7 minutes (I believe was hypothesized), or cause time travel which could destroy the time space continuum. Personally, I think it will rip open a wormhole (which is pretty much a 2 way blackhole), that opens on the other side in the past, and it will launch a big bang of strange particles back then and will cause the world to be destroyed millions of years in the past (or at least strangified) which would destroy the time stream. Well, considering that the world is so strange, it may have already happened. Maybe we already ARE strange matter. We won't know until they actually run it when it get charged up enough. In 2 months did they say? Anything that takes over a week to charge scares me.
Astral Omega wrote:Ooo, earth as a dumping planet... that makes perfect sense since we're already setting it up to be one! You know with the trashing of the atmosphere and all. (Which BTW is NOT causing global warming!)
Thank you. I just wish more people were smart enough to realize that.

Engineers invented stuff... but HOW did they do it without the basis of science to start with? And who discovered those basic facts? SCIENTISTS!
Silver wrote:Paper, Pencils, and Poetry all exist without scientists. So does manga. One Piece is, first and foremost, a manga. Therefore One Piece exists without scientists.
Sure, it may exist- but it would never be mass produced, printed (paper was invented by very early scientists they just didn't know to call it that yet :-P ) and would never have been shipped around the world. So you wouldn't know anything about it...

And yes, it may be thanks to different kinds of scientists... but I just thought I'd point out the wild, over-generalised claim that Silver made.

Over-generalisation sucks.

IMMA CHARGIN MAH... Particle Accelerator? I don't know about us already being strange matter though.. Strange matter is something like in some sort of star... a strange star... I read it somewhere, I don;t know where...

But the idea that this has already happened and the world is already over is kinda cool... I can tell you that it already has- in an alternate dimension. All this stuff we are discussing already has/ will occur in alternate realities.

Now THAT'S cool!

My theory is coming together... Spore.

Off-topic: Hey Atma, Lawson made Spore so his followers could feel what it would be like being Lawson.

Funny, I've got a National Geographic about this. I'll have to read it again. Maybe I'll even post it. Be warned, it will be very long.

Whoo! The world didn't end!
We had a huge discussion about this after band yesterday (we have lunch after band, and a bunch of the band people go back to the band room to eat since the caf is soo crowded), because I brought it up randomly when we needed a change of subject (Mr. World War 2 was being stupid agian....*is barely able to stop herself from ranting*)
Scientists are definatly important. I'm too lazy to argue, though, and I don't feel like getting into a debate at the moment. All I'll say is that scientists learned that big factories that burned coal were creating sulfiric acid which in turn created acid rain, which is dangerous. They also learned how CFCs were terrible for the enviornment.
May the Triforce be with you.

They were discussing this on morning show this morning (of which I only saw like 2 minutes of) and one ofmy favourite comedians was on there^^ Sammy J *fangirl squeesighomghessocute!*

... but that's mostly unrelated.

But anyway someone said (not sure who I was too busy staring at the cuteness) that the scientistrs predict that the end of the world will either end in 7 years or something (that is it will be a slow process with the volcanoes going crazy and everything) or in half a second. then the other person replied that they'd rather the half a second one.

Which would you prefer?

Those links are indeed epic, sir but new evidence (that I got from a reliable source known as www.i-am-bored.com) states that the earth should have been destroyed many times over...

Eg: 1982- the year of Doom- THE PLANETS ARE ALIGNED WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!
"Scientists are forecasting that soon our solar system will experience some unique and sobering events. This forecast concerning 1982 comes from the scientific investigations of astronomers and is in no way related to astrology and fortune telling. The news is quoted from the September 16, 1974 edition of "Newsweek" magazine, science section. These are the conclusions of John Gribbin, science editor of "Nature" magazine, and of Stephen Plagemann of NASA's Goddard Space Center in Maryland. These reputable scientists are pointing out that in the latter part of 1982 there will take place an event unique in our solar system. At that time all nine planets will be on the same side of the sun. That happens once every 179 years, but in 1982 the nine planets will not only be on the same side of the sun, but in perfect alignment. "Newsweek" referred to this situation as "An Apocalyptic Prediction:' In the book that these men have co-authored, "The Jupiter Effect", they point out that, just as the moon affects earth tides by its gravitational pull, so do the planets affect each other, and particularly Jupiter, because of its great size. This has been linked to the earthquake frequency on our planet earth. What will happen when all the planets come into one line and exert a united gravitational pull on our earth? These scientists speak of eight probable effects: 1) A disturbed magnetic activity in the sun, producing huge firestorms; 2) That the ionosphere of earth will be changed; 3) That radio and television communications will be disrupted; 4) That there will be weird lighting effects from aurora borealis; 5) There will be vast changes in wind patterns; 6) Rainfall and temperature patterns will change; 7) Earth's rotation, and the length of the days may change; 8) Many earthquakes will occur. "There will be many earthquakes, large and small... and one region where one of the greatest fault systems lies today, under great strain, long overdue for a giant leap forward, and just waiting for the necessary kick, is California." This is the frightening, apocalyptic vision of the scientists as quoted in "Newsweek." (Evangelical Tract Distributors, Edmonton, Alta., Canada)"

Or- November 27 2007:

The Sacerdotal Knights of National Security report that "A space alien captured at a UFO landing site in eastern Missouri cracked under interrogation by the CIA and admitted that an extraterrestrial army will attack Earth on November 27 with the express purpose of stripping our planet of every natural resource they can find a use for -- and making slaves of every man, woman and child in the world!"

Relax, relax... The world isn't gonna be over for a long, long time.

I was working my butt off when it started up to get as much info as I can. It's completely safe.

This calls for some R.E.M.!

...ITS THE END OF THE WORLD, AS WE KNOW IT
ITS THE END OF THE WORLD, AS WE KNOW IT AND I FEEL FINE

Errr, I don't really think any prophet's will be right, so I'm not worried. Past predictions... make all of them lose credibility.
