One Piece OOC
OOC Thread, all the usual stuff, yeah, great.
So, the first thing we need to work out is Devil's Fruit Powers. Obviously, they're a nice thing to have. But we can't have everyone running around with a Devil's Fruit - of the five Strawhats that left East Blue, Luffy was the only one with a Devil's Fruit Power. They're extremely rare, especially outside of the Grand Line. By making the starting point a town full of pirates, it's slightly more logical that there would be a few Devil's fruit users in the area - they're treated like treasure, since they're rare and can be sold for a high price, so they wind up with pirates more often than anyone else.
Even still, I don't want the number of people with Devil's fruits to outnumber the normal (?) humans. Six people displayed interest in joining in the New RP thread. I've... kind of already claimed a Devil's fruit, and Gar's kind of already claimed a Devil's fruit (though he doesn't have it yet). So for now, one other person can have one. We can introduce more characters later, we can find the fruits later, but for now it's one more person. I'm going to assume we can all be nice here, and keep in mind that Devil's fruit powers clearly aren't too big an advantage... Sanji beat Mr. 2 Bon Clay, Nami beat Miss Double Finger (/Miss New Year's Eve... I guess it only bothers me that they couldn't keep the Japanese name of the holiday because of all the other things they changed), and just WAIT until Usopp vs. Perona. (Thriller Bark = Epicwin).
For your convenience, I've got a list of possible Devil's Fruits here. This isn't just for main characters, of course... The Bad Guys need Devil's Fruit too.
Iwa Iwa no Mi - Paramecia type. 'Iwa' means 'rock'. We all remember Mr. 3's Doru Doru no Mi, right? ...What? We don't? We've all been watching the dub and since 4kids cut Little Garden, we have no idea who Mr. 3 is? Well that's why we should ALL WATCH THE SUB... well, anyway, he had wax powers. He could drip wax, then control its shape... although he prefered taking live people and coating them with wax. People like Nami, Vivi, and Zoro. Then he called it 'art'. The point is, the Iwa Iwa no Mi is basically the same thing, just with rock.
Mushi Mushi no Mi: Model Butterfly - Zoan type. 'Mushi' means 'Bug'. As a Zoan type, it would allow a full Butterfly form, and a half-Butterfly form. Which would be kind of lame, since all butterflies really do is polinate flowers and look pretty. But come on, this is way too cool to let it go to waste... so for our purposes, it's really going to be more of a Mushi Mushi no Mi: Model Butterfree. You would basically be able to use Gust, Silver Wind, Confusion, and Sleep Powder.
Gane Gane no Mi - Logia type. 'Gane' means 'steel'. So it's control of and transforming into metal, basically. You know how Edward Elric can turn his automail arm into a blade? Those are the kind of options you've got here. So it's kind of 00ber. I hear this type of metal melts really easily, though...
Kami Kami no Mi - Paramecia type. If you've been reading the ROM comic, you'd know that 'Kami' means 'paper'. ...Or god. But we're going with the former. Paper may be fragile... but that certainly hasn't stopped Mario. And if you can fold yourself into a paper airplane, just immagine all the fun you'd have in math class ("Billy! Stop throwing paper airplanes at Little Susie's head! ...O-ok, stop throwing YOURSELF at Little Susie's head!").
Uso Uso no Mi - Paramecia type. 'Uso' means 'lie'. Huh. I wonder why that makes me think of Sogeking...? Well, with the Uso Uso no Mi, people might actually believe you when you tell them you've got 8,000 followers. Heck, they'd probably believe you if you told them they were a frog. Not sure they'd buy a "Good things will happen if you stop breathing!" though...
Kame Kame no Mi - Zoan type. 'Kame' means 'turtle'. Obviously we're not talking about a sea turtle here. More like a tortoise. You've still got that nice shell you can hide in at any given moment, though. You could have some fun with that.
Ito Ito no Mi - Paramecia type. 'Ito' means 'string'. So you know Spiderman and that whole web shooting power? It's basically that.
And if you're looking for something really, really, EXTREMELY powerful... Kuma Kuma no Mi: Model Panda. Zoan type. You would get all the powers... of a panda. And of course, if you want to invent your own Devil's Fruit, that's fine too.

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

So eventually, I started to lose faith... I thought you had been killed in that terrible, terrible war. Or maybe that you had forgotten about me. It's been so long, you probably found another girl over there... I never stopped loving you, but I didn't think you cared about me anymore, so welcoming you back just would have been too painful for me... I'm sorry. I'm glad you've come back home *sniff*

I can't very well tell him it's no good, considering how hard I laughed when I read his dream. That's what One Piece is all about, right? Ok, well, it's all about Pirates and One Piece and dream chasing and stuff... But ridiculous characters and stupid jokes are a big part of it too!

Aw, darn. I really kinda wanted to join this. And I like kami kami no mi. But oh well, I guess.
So, my real question is....um....no god-modding? Seriously? I mean, technically, if you think about it, the only straw hat that doesn't godmode is Usopp (who actually has to work to achieve victory, which is why I like him). The others just stretch/kick/cut their way out of danger, no matter what. Except Nami, who doesn't fight as much. And she can turn invisible....somehow.
Oh, and my other questions: Time period?
Also: What's that square guy's power? I like that guy.
Oh, and....this, being one piece....it'll be hard to write off people who dissapear, especially if they have a devil fruit....so how are we going to do that?

Stevenson's Vocabulary Word of the Week:
Foment: (verb) To excite or arouse, i.e. 2014's Week of Randomness hopes to foment some activity on the forums.
Stevenson's Latin Phrase of the Week:
Brutum Fulmen: (senseless thunderbolt) This phrase, coined by Pliny the elder, is used to refer to an empty threat.

Having 00ber powers is different than God moding. One Piece is a shounen anime, meaning there's a lot of fighting, so they have to be strong. But since their opponents are strong too, it's not ever like, "BANG UR DED!" it's like "Man, this has taken three full episodes already... guess it's time for a conveniently timed strength boost so I don't die!"
And Usopp really doesn't fight much more than Nami... I hate Water 7 and Enies Lobby. Nami gets to fight one of the main bad guys, where as Usopp's only fight is against... well... it shouldn't count! No matter how much it pwned!
Anyway... The time period would have to be... I think this would actually be easiest if we set it before the defeat of Crocodile; then I don't have to spoil it for all of the dubbies what happens when a Shichibukai is dethroned. Being defeated by some punk from East Blue, he obviously didn't get to keep that title...
Square guy? Kaku? Usopp's evil twin brother? He has... quite a few powers. First there's the Ushi Ushi no Mi: Model Giraffe... and then there's Rokushiki, a set of six techniques, created by... gah, I really can't say that without spoiling it. But it's pretty 00ber.
Witing off people with Devil's Fruits is easy. "Oh look, he slipped and fell into the ocean." "Shouldn't we help him?" "Nah, I never really liked him anyway." ...Or we could... try to be creative and work on a case-by-case basis...

Gar already has dibs on the third. Since the Devil's Fruit he wants is ridiculously over powered, I'm not letting him have it until we're at least in the Grand Line.Stevenson wrote:*counts* I count two fruit people. Isn't the max three? Oh well.

Well, hm... I don't want to say that a water Devil's Fruit is impossible... There was a 'liquid' Devil's fruit in the second movie. It wasn't necessarily water, but it was close enough in that they had all the powers you'd expect of a Water Fruit... We never saw them trying to swim, so I'm assuming they couldn't... but they were definitely still weak to sea water and kairouseki, we can assume that much.
