Looking Back:
You really don't find many video games that contain completely useless items. If there's an item in a game, you can safely assume that it has some practical game related use, even if that's nothing more than being sellable for a good price. There is the occasional game with truly useless items, but they're rare. The reason? Well, every item in a game (even if it doesn't have a graphic) takes time to make. And you have to pay people for the time they work, so useless items are a waste of time and money. But there's another reason. Considering how uncommon useless items are, players tend to expect that everything they find in a game serves a purpose. If it they find some useless item, they're quite likely to drive themselves crazy trying to figure out what it's supposed to be used for. |
