Looking Back:
Unlike the Pokémon anime, where most of Ash's pokémon never evolve, I wanted the pokémon in Pebble Version to evolve at roughly the appropriate point in the game given how much they've been used, starters and all. Of course, there was one problem with having torchic evolve. As a combusken, it could no longer ride on Brendan's head, something which lead to a lot of jokes and in the past, and made for a fun way to work a pokémon into a lot of strips that would otherwise just have humans. So, if I was going to lose all that, I figured I might as well get one last joke in. |
