Where Were YOU When it Happened?

Post by Metalheadz »

What were you doing or where were you when the attacks on 9/11 happened?

Me, I was in my kitchen making breakfast with mom.

I was seven years old at the time, so I didn't really comprehend what had happened at the time. The earliest I remember hearing about it was on the radio in a car travelling down the freeway.

It was morning at my family's house in Colorado. I answered an early phone call from a family friend who told me to turn on the news. That was a little before the second plane hit.

Elementary school, 5th grade. I didn't know what was happening, but my Dad picked me up. The first I heard about it was in the car driving home. The faculty didn't tell us anything. That's all I can remember of that day, other than seeing footage on TV, which is more than I can say about most days.

I was in 2nd grade, so my memory is scarce. I just remember my teacher talking about the day JFK was assassinated and comparing her experience when she was in school for that and comparing it to what had just happened. Tango (despite being younger) has a more vivid memory of our babysitter sobbing as she watched the footage on TV.

Also, as I wrote on teh facebookz:

"On this day, we should keep the people who lost their lives on 9/11 in our hearts, but we should also think of the many Muslim people who are unjustly persecuted because of the actions of a few extremists. The hatred has to stop."

I made that my current Facebook status if you don't mind, Saber. That's really cool of you to say.

Yeah, I was in first grade at that time and as soon as I got to school, we all began talking to the teacher about it.

I was in sixth grade. In the morning when I was eating breakfast, I noticed that my dad was watching something on TV. When I looked, it seemed to be of a building on fire. I thought it was a movie of some kind, so I didn't think of it too much. After I got to school, though, I learned from my teacher and my classmates about the World Trade Center, and that the burning building I saw was actually the Pentagon. We spent the rest of the day not doing anything but watching the news on the classroom TV, and school was let out early.

Gosh, I was too young to even remember it. I was in Kindergarten (five years old). My mom remembers the day though. She told me she just dropped me off at school and heard about it on the radio. She then called her close friend over and watched it on TV. I, though, have no recollection of it what-so-ever.

Well, I was on my grade six camp at the time, so I didn't find out about it untill 3 or 4 days after when I got home, and even then I didn't really comprhend the entirty of it being in a different country and all.
Redback, Funnel-Web, Blue-ringed octopus
Taipan, Tigersnake and a Box jellyfish
Stonefish and the poison thing that lives in a shell
That spikes you when you pick it up

Though I've already shared my story, today in psych we watched a documentary that was about 9/11 from the perspective of 3-7 year-olds. It was filmed a few months after 9/11, and it was especially interesting to me because, at the time, I fell into that age range as well.

Some responses (not necessarily word-for-word, but the general gist of it.):

"Well, this country is the richest country... in, in this part of the world. I think those other guys, the bad guys, they were jealous."

"We taught the, the bad guys how to fly the planes. So why did they fly the planes into the people who taught them how to use airplanes?"

"See, normal fires you can put out with water. I have muscles (here he rolled down his sleeves and flexed his 3-year-old muscles) so I can put out fire. But the planes, they have gas, and gas makes a chemical fire and you need a chemical to put out a chemical fire and I don't have that."

"Well, I think they did it because those guys, they have no friends, so they were mean."

"I used to be scared, and I'm still getting over it, it might take me a few days 'til I'm fully better."

"I was scared they'd bomb my house, but my mom told me they only hit important places, and my house, it's not important."

Just thought I'd share

Gee, I'm feeling old with you guys :)

Anyway senior year in High School and was in the computer lab doing my normal morning internet stuff when someone came into the room and turned on the T.V. just as the 2nd plane crashed into the buildings. Then it was off and on watching it for half the class time before the teacher would try to salvage some class. This went on til both towers fell and then back to as normal as it could get with what happned that day.

Then I had to do my paper route and folding all the papers with the frount page with the story.
