Mob Ties

This is a comic about Sidney Burns. It begins as he wakes up one morning, after an incredible hangover, and soon learns he got himself engaged to the teenage daughter of a Yakuza boss. However, if Sid doesn't marry her in one year, he loses his life. Of course, there's a whole lot more to it. Turns out Mika, his Fiance, is really the reincarnation of a Dragon Princess, and he's the reincarcation of a warrior who she fell in love with. Throw in other Yakuza clans, Cat people with the Main Bad Guy as their leader, Cyborgs, and one scary female coach, and you got Mob Ties.
3 of my Favorite comics:
QUESTION NOT THE PUPPETS!
Sid figures out the Yakuza
A good title drop.

Well, there's many more favorites, but I don't have enough time to post them all.

I got lost in this series. Slightly predictable in places, slightly adorable in places. Mr. Burns has an obvious case of main character immunity, but that's explained later in the mind exploration arc. It almost seems like the author didn't quite know where he was going at first, but he managed to tie most things together.
Needless to say, I binged through the entire archive. Should've saved my favorites... But I have to work to do...

I was hoping to get through the entire archives before I posted but they appear to be larger then I thought so I'll just say my piece now. When I first read the description, I was expecting this to be pretty bad (a big mash up of anime cliches or something). Now that I've read a decent bit, I got to say that it's a lot better than I thought. There's still some cliches, the author seems to throw in a whole bunch of random stuff at first (like Mika being able to see ghosts), like he wasn't entirely sure where he was going with the plot, and there's way to many guns around for something supposedly set in modern day Japan... But, overall, it's really not bad. Can't say if it'll hold my interest throughout the entire archives, but I'm going to keep reading for now.

Yeah, I was hoping to read a little further in before posting too, but got busy and all. Midway through third issue at the moment, but I may read more.

I wasn't too sure about it first, whole thing seemed kinda strange. Now, well, it's still strange, but I'm starting to see the plotline now. Like Josiah, I was also expecting to see a lot of cliches, (like how the gym teacher said "Think of it as a bad manga plot" Or something or other.) So I wasn't expecting a page like this. It caught my attention more afterward.

For the sake of this review I skipped ahead to a more recent arc, and found that the art cleans up a lot. The plotline is odd, but that's probably just because it's not what I'm used to.

Since we have so few comments so far, I'm going to keep this one open for one more week.

Eh... I read the first few pages a while ago, but it didn't really catch my interest... couldn't sit through enough to judge though, so I figured on just skipping this week.

But now I feel bad since no one else is reading it, and... I guess it does get better. Seemed too generic at the beginning and it wasn't even funny enough to make up for it. Story hasn't improved much, but it's at least gotten interesting as the characters have, plus I got a few laughs. Don't know if I'll keep following, but it's at least an ok comic.

Another thing that made me laugh... my high school's mascot was the Bengal tiger. Our rival school? The Rams. Yeeeaaah...

And I found Waldo.

I'm really disappointed in this comic. I expected anthropomorphic ties in mobs, not an English teacher marrying the daughter of a Yakuza member. Still, the plot is pretty good, but I'm not a huge fan of the art. Really, the art kind of discouraged me.

...Yeah I'm definitely dropping it now, freaking troll. You see, I...

ship Weasel x Taro. Yeah, I don't really get it either. But for whatever reason that pairing made me happy and there was a strong urge to save a certain mistletoe themed wallpaper... I was really hoping Weasel was just being Tsundere and would eventually be all, "I'm not gay! I just like you!" and he could have gotten away with it too... If it weren't for that meddling Mookie! Normally any Reverse Trap is ok in my book, but I really hate that character. Pulled out of nowhere, just kind of inserted into the main group... and coming between the only thing I liked about the comic! Ugh.

For a comic with so many love triangles and so much emphasis on marriage, the author handles it terribly. I'm honestly getting more and more afraid that Sid and Mika will actually end up as a couple of some sort. Sure they've been married for a while, but that was a desperation thing. They still had more of a student/teacher relationship than anything. But it almost seems like they're heading in the family direction which is... not cool, pedophilia, Mika has no interest, it's just... gross.

Mostly though I'll just never forgive the Ship Sinking. "Like a sister"... I swear.

Haven't gotten that far so I can't comment... Other than that I never ever ship same sex couples. Actually, I don't really "ship" at all. But if I'm going to root for a certain pairing, it's never a same sex one.

Lol same sex couple. Trap x Guy is straight, as far as I'm concerned. And when said trap develops the ability to actually transform into a girl, well... not to mention it was semi-cannon until the Author screwed it up. And I liked it! Usually I don't go for that kind of thing, but... No, as far as I'm concerned, Weasel's gay now. Mookie may technically be a girl... but any Shape-shifter that consciously spends more time as a male because they "like that better"? That's a guy in my book.

Shape shifter? Yeah, I definately haven't gotten far enough to know what you're talking about...
