Konnichiwa.

My painting teacher likes to say that Columbus Day is a celebration of failure.

Yep yep.

Thank you, Columbus, for failing miserably at finding India. Now we get a day off of school. /o/

Which I had off already, since I have no class on Mondays, so I'll just do what I normally do; procrastinate on homework.

Hi!

SATs are coming up in spring, but PSATs are on Wednesday. I'll be studying my butt off for them starting tonight. Add six projects to English and make-up math homework, too. And no, I didn't have Columbus Day off today, sadly...

Peace out!

My school wasn't closed, but I don't have class on Monday anyway. I did, however, have to go to work, which is much worse. And I think, in honor of this day, I shall share a page or two from a history book that you may find very informative. This is history book was well-researched, by the way, and written by Dave Barry.
Dave Barry Slept Here wrote:Meanwhile, in nearby Italy, Christopher Columbus was forming. As a youth, he spent many hours gazing out to sea and thinking to himself: "Someday I will be the cause of a holiday observed by millions of Government workers." The fact that he thought in English was only one of the amazing things about the young Columbus. Another was his conviction that if he sailed all the way across the Atlantic, he would reach India. We now know, thanks to satellite photographs, that this makes him seem as stupid as a buffalo, although it seemed pretty good when Columbus explained it to the rulers of Spain, Ferdinand and his lovely wife, Imelda, who agreed to finance the voyage by selling six thousand pairs of her shoes.

And so Columbus assembled a group of the hardiest mariners he could find. These fellows were so hardy that, had the light bulb been invented at that time, it would have taken at least three of these mariners to screw one in, if you get our drift. On October 8, 1492, they set out across the storm-tossed Atlantic in three tiny ships, the Ninja, the Pina Colada, and the Heidy-Ho III. Fortunately Columbus kept a detailed log, so we can get some sense of how long and arduous their journey was from some revealing excerpts such as this:

October 8--Boy, is this journey ever long! Also arduous!

But Finally, after numerous storm-tossed weeks, just when it seemed as if Columbus and his men would never see land again, there came an excited cry from the lookout.

"Hey!" he cried. "We forgot to put up the sails!"

And so they all had a hearty laugh, after which they hoisted the damned things. A few hours later, on October 8, they came to an island, where Columbus and a convenient interpreter waded ashore and had the following historic conversation with a local tribal chief:

COLUMBUS: You guys are Indians, right?
TRIBAL CHIEF: K'han anonoda jawe. ("No. We came over from Asia about twenty thousand years ago via the Land Bridge.")
COLUMBUS: Listen, we have spent many weeks looking for India in these three storm-tossed, vomit-encrusted ships, and we have cannons pointing at your wigwams, and we say you are Indians.
TRIBAL CHIEF: B'nomi kawa saki! ("Welcome to India!")

Thus the white men and the Native Americans were able, through the spirit of goodwill and compromise, to reach the first in what would become a long series of mutually beneficial, breached agreements that enabled the two cultures to coexist peacefully for stretches of twenty and sometimes even thirty days, after which it was usually necessary to negotiate new agreements that would be even more mutual and beneficial, until ultimately the Native Americans were able to perceive the vast mutual benefits of living in rock-strewn sectors of South Dakota.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Hi! Columbus may not have been the smartest or nicest guy ever, but you gotta admit that without his accidental discovery the USA, Canada, and the like would likely be very different places.

Ohmaigosh!!!! I'm back already, much sooner than I expected I would have. My mental state currently is that of a ridiculous amount of happiness. The reason I'm so overjoyed is because I met up with my best who I haven't seen in 4 years, just being around her made me pretty much overjoyed. So....not everything has gone away but, she made things a hell of a lot better.

Hi! So glad to hear that, Marluxia! ;-) Glad to see you're now a happy camper again, buddy!

PSAT's tomorrow... Hm, I'm hoping to get into that National Merit Scholarship Program. I don't know if it's really worth something, seeing how not many other juniors are taking the exam tomorrow, but I thought "why not?" Posting this for tonight, eating dinner, then will spend an hour or so studying.

Peace out!

Hey.

That's awesome, Marluxia :)

In other more boring news, y'know how I've been complaining that things haven't been going right in my life lately? Well, things are continuing to go wrong, which is certainly a great bundle of fun. I've never believed in things a person having "good luck" or "bad luck" before, but, man, all of the things going wrong in my life are just so diverse, it's hard to beleive it's anything other than bad luck or a curse or something. Yeesh.

Right around college application time, too? What a horrible time to have a curse.

Hi! Sukkot starts tonight! But, being in an apartment, I can't really do all that much about it except go to the special service on Saturday...

Hi!

PSAT's were OK, today. Now time to do some homework I procrastinated all day... Will make my character profile tomorrow on the HP roleplay, hopefully.

Peace out!

Hi! It's the first day of sukkot...though I can't really do much about it between work and living in an apartment.

Barring something going horribly wrong with the weather, I'll be heading south again tomorrow. First for a water park and then to meet some people at Busch Gardens. Should be a lot of fun, though I might get back pretty late.

Hi!

Just spent over an hour working on roleplays... Well, that's enough internet for one day. :P Time to do homework before I end up procrastinating again.

Peace out!

Lots of stuff happening. So much stuff.

Midterms are coming up, which means our professors are going to do a big review of everything we've done so far, so our professors said that we should go back and fix any projects we think we need to improve. So basically I'm going to be touching up everything. And then there's homework.

But guess what? I get next next Tuesday off! It's our midterm break...but I don't know why they didn't just put it on Monday. But hey, I have my toughest class on Tuesday so that's good. And since this means I might have less homework, I'm planning on spending time that day on Pokemon Blank Version. It's high time I continued that.

Also, something really exciting. I'm going to my first convention! Me and some friends are going into the city for New York Comic Con! Probably not smart of me to waste a whole day I that I could spend doing touchups for midterm, but oh well :D

Hi! Both yesterday's outting and today's sukkot service went well, though I didn't get a whole lot of sleep inbetween the two. Expect photos and a write-up on Monday. In the meantime, I'll try and get a last couple of RP posts in tonight.
