| Looking Back: Now that Brendan and May are using the pokédex to look up Brendan's new zigzagoon, it makes sense that they'd look up their other pokémon as well. If you think that the dex itself looks a little squashed, that's cause the size of the full pokéx layout is slightly wider than one third of your average PV strip so if I actually show three panels of it, I have to crop things a bit to fit it all in. Also note that, in the first panel, torchic is listed as #255, which is its national dex number, as opposed to #4 which is its Hoenn dex number. Normally the game would display everything in Hoenn dex mode, unless you'd traded with someone who had FireRed or LeafGreen (which hadn't been released yet when this strip was made). But you can unlock the national dex with a Gameshark code and since I'd always planned to have some non R/S pokémon appear in the comic, and never liked the whole concept of a local dex anyway, I used national right from the get go. |
